SCAR 17S ???

Any thoughts? I know the price is over $3k, but is it worth it? Is BushMaster/Remington going to offer a 308 round??

I'm waiting on my serious urge for a SCAR until VLTOR releases their final production stock adapter (as demonstrated at SHOT 2010). Not for the compliance argument, but because 1. I don't want to ruin a perfectly good stock if it comes to that and 2. I've heard that it is more than just a novelty to have a different stock then the default SCAR stock-- affecting balance and cheek weld.

I think its worth it personally, if you're willing to "bite the bullet" for the ammunition prices and magazines. The fact that you would have to butcher a perfectly fine FAL-type magazine aches me (and I could imagine its a PITA). But more so, the cost of the ammunition is a bit much.

I was highly considering a .308 rifle-- actually the LMT MWS that Shane has had. I came to the conclusion that while the rifle itself wouldn't be too expensive (mid-$2000's), and it uses Magpul 20LR magazines-- the cost of ammunition to not just have, but to become proficient... we're talking thousands of rounds, and that's just beyond my budget right now.

I would consider it my SHTF weapon. I guess price for ammo is relative, $$$ gun = $$$ ammo

Worth is always relative to the buyer. I was all set to go 17S but.... the MWS called me louder. Probably the thing that made me go MWS most was wanting a little more accuracy than I think the SCAR can offer. BUT IT WAS CLOSE!!! If this wasnt a ban state and I wouldnt have had to re-engineer the entire stock system, it would have been even closer! But now Im back on a 16s kick after ny Buddies article

picking up my FID tomorrow. how do i go about getting this rifle in NJ (.308)? who can set this up? im looking for it in BLACK. someone, help a member out.

Contact a vendor or use the price request to get a quote, or order one from online and follow their procedures for a transfer to a local NJ FFL.

 

For vendors, scroll down and there are plenty of guys to choose from.

 

To order one online, find one at a place like Gun Broker (http://www.gunbroker.com/) or a reputable store like Bud's Gun Shop (http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php) or Impact Guns (http://www.impactguns.com/store/)... of course "reputable" is up for debate.

the problem that im running into is that most shops wont sell it to me unless its NJ compliant & they dont do the mods to make it compliant. i may run into the same issue with gunbroker, etc. im assuming they need to modify it, then ship it to my FFL, correct?

If you order it online, yes it will need to be shipped to your FFL. I would figure out who you want to use as an FFL first, then find out what you need to do before you order the gun.
