ok another worn out topic. is there a bottom line on 40s&w kabooms? Is it not the ammo period or what then?

 

is this seriously more prevalent then problems with 9mm, 380, 45 etc.????

Prevelant in Glock 22's. My research and discussion lead me to believe this really was a disconnector problem on top of an unsupported chamber. However, some math wiz told me the odds of it hapening are better for winning the lottery. Bottom line it has happened, particulerly in that model.

The following safety advisory was received on 05/17/03 from NLETS (National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System). It's editted.

 

Warren Co. Sheriff's Office(TN) reports that on 05/16, while training at the range, 3 deputies were injured when 3 separate G22s exploded in their hands. Ammunition used at the time was Federal Classic 155gr. HI-Shok JHP (Lot #2-42W262 or 2-42N262). 1 deputy was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

I have shot multiple glocks in this caliber and haven't had an issue.

No. Its an actual issue with Glock 22's. The disconecter can allow an out of battery firing. If this has been solved or not in recent years I do not know. I dont own glocks.

40 S&W is a very high pressure round. It needs full barrel support much more than 9mm and 45ACP. Older Glocks had far less support on their barrels (i.e. the feed ramp was so shallow that the six o'clock position under the case had no metal around it) and they started fixing them on the sly. Their PR department is so obsessed with "Glock Perfection" that the company does not let the public know when small changes like this are implemented. I believe it was fixed somewhere in the Gen 2 guns.

The use of lead bullets with Glock barrels is a separate, but also Kaboom creating issue. Soft lead accumulates in the sharp polygonal rifling. Over time this constricts the diameter of the bore and raises pressures when the round ism fired. If the pressure gets high enough, Kaboom. There are plenty of people who shoot lead bullets in their Glocks. Just keep the damn thing clean. I don't because I don't like handling lead, but mostly because I bought a Glock so I don't have to clean it.

BTW, I am not a Glock hater. I own a 34 and a 20, and have owned other and probably will own more.

Shane- I really have to think about this disconnector issue. I have to run out now but I really have to think on it...

 

Any reference you have will be appreciated. Initially it just doesn't sit right with me. Lunker's unsupported chamber theory I've heard before and may have some credence based on possible thin walled cases at the web.

 

Just remember all Mauser actions I've seen have chambers that are unsupported at the web of the case.
