Sigman 41 Posted December 4, 2010 Does your garage get humid or moisture in it? You want to keep the moisture out. I keep a 40W light in mine with a can of the desiccant moisture remover. This combination works very well.
maideneddie 35 Posted December 4, 2010 Make sure you have some kind of humidity control in your safe, or your guns will turn into rusty bats in a very short amount of time.

This combination works very well. One would think it's the desiccant more so than the light, but the light will keep the temperature high enough that the oils/lubricants don't congeal. dpas1973 0 Posted December 4, 2010 so then humidifiers for safes wont work?
Anselmo 87 Posted December 4, 2010 You want a dehumidifier to suck up the moisture. A dessicant. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Dry-Packs-Indicating-Silica-Aluminum-Canister/dp/B0025OO8DO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1291434237&sr=8-6 Other dessicants may be better or better sized for your safe. It changes colors as it absorbs moisture and you can put it in your oven to evaporate off the moisture and recharge the dessicant.
Sigman 41 Posted December 4, 2010 I bought the large can of this Silica Gel The beads turn pink when they can't absorb anymore moisture. You re-activate it by heating the can in the oven. Get the large container because it fills fast in the warmer months.

JackDaWack 2,895 Posted December 5, 2010 You can use any type drying agent, the moisture level will determine how long they last. My safe came with 4 nice sized bags of drying agent, not sure what chemical, but usually is some sort of chloride. As far as i know they should do the trick since the air is stagnant in there, meaning moisture will only enter when you open it. I would rather put my stuff in a damp basement with a dehumidifier for the room then a garage.
