Decisions, Decisions

Recommended Posts

I am not going to include a poll because im just looking for basic opinions and hopefully user experiences. Basically after a long patient wait i applied for an updated fid and 2 pistols permits. when i get them i intend to use them. I am looking at a few guns but havent had a chance to hold any yet because the old fid is sent in to be replaced. So some of these options may be completely eliminated come purchase time.

Here is what im looking at.

Ruger SR9

Glock 17 gen4

FNH FiveseveN

FNH FNP-45

XDm 45

walther p22

ruger 22/45

and a couple of others im looking for a combo of one really nice gun and one utilitarian gun i am attracted to the g17 because of the 22 conversion that i have heard good things about. any experiences thoughts ideas please let me know

Welcome!

Ruger SR9 has a really stiff trigger that will take some getting used to.

Glock 17 Gen4 will be stuck at 10 rounds unless you pin the mags.

The P22 is a nice little gun but it's not very accurate past like 10 yards.

You should come to a meet - You'll be able to try some of those. ChrisJM981 has a P22. Ray Ray has a SR9.

Ray Ray's SR9 is now my SR9, I happen to like it because it's one of the few guns that fits comfortably in my hand, but everyone is different. Before going to a meet, you need to go to your nearest gun shop and hold as many of those pistols as possible. You have mentioned a bunch of randomly selected pistols, and there isn't a common theme or price point among them. First decide what your price range is, and then decide what you intend to use the pistol for, then research which guns fit into those needs.

The SR9 mentioned above started off with a rough trigger, but she really smoothed out with more rounds down range. As far as your other choices, it's kind of hard to give you "advice" because the list is so broad and open. The best you could do is come to a meet-up at the ranges (Bullet Hole, Bayonne, Shore Shot, Brick Armory?) and grab as many as you can and take notes.

jon i compeltely agree however my wallet wont permit that. and yes i am well aware that those guns are quite varied and the list isnt really thematic. as far as purpose the purpose is to shoot lol. Cant carry so that doesnt matter and havent had enough experience or knowledge to compete so it really is just for collecting and shooting.

just some insight im looking to get two as i mentioned price point(s) or 1,000 and 500 dollars respectively

advice and reccomendations are appreciated.

XDm 45 is a great choice, although the standard XD is just as good. The SR9 is another good choice, but 10 round mags are what your gonna get. Glock 17 is top notch, but again 10 round mags suck. Glock 19 is the ay to go.

Im going to stick to a full size glock i have a large hand. like i said all this may change once i can physically hold them all. upon research i think im switching it up to a g22 gen4 because i can still get a .22 convesion kit but i also have the availability to get a 9mm and .357 conversion for it as well and I like this because i dont have to get a whole new gun to shoot a new caliber i can experiment on a familiar platform

edited: and 15 round mags

yea ive shot them before and they are almost advanced simplicity. the "safe action system" and design is awesome but its not showing its utilitarian almost.

There is a understated sexiness about them they are confident enough in the product and design to not make them fancy lookin
