Bullets With Air Vents?

Recommended Posts

of course they go faster.... they are lighter weight.

Although I wonder if those holes actually do what they claim, and what the result is. I would argue though, that velocity is not the most important aspect, unless you are shooting long distance.

If the air actually went into those holes during flight (doubtful due to boundary layer of air) it would cause drag like having your car windows open on the highway. Any time you force fluid to change direction there is resistance.

Sounds like they say it's for the internal ballistics...which us also doubtful.

As you said, doubtful the holes are doing anything but reducing weight because air isn't passing through holes at speed, or it shouldn't. That is unless the holes are acting like turbulators or something along that principal, I remember i had them on the LE on one of my hang gliders, didn't really notice a difference in flight, but it was low speed flight anyway, I think the fastest I went in that glider was probably 70 to 75 IAS.

The basic feature of holes drilled in the bullet (although for a different purpose) reminds me of a long running thread on THR.org about someones new idea called the HyperCav bullet. Looking back, the interest on that seems to have waned.

Am I missing something here? They drill a hole in the back of the bullet and then holes around the side? What is keeping the powder from spilling out of the holes during shipping, handling, loading, etc?

The holes would be below the case mouth.

not to take away from the bullet convo but since it was brought up I must say that I am mighty jealous of you.. always wanted to hang-glide.

Just like when we sign up to shoot USPSA, OBRAMS, and the like, and just as I have told many people learning to hang glide, all you need to do is 2 things to hang glide. 1 can you hang like a sack of potato's because the things just about fly themselves, and 2 can you sign this waver.. :icon_mrgreen:

If you want more info I can direct you to where to go, it's only about 2 hours from us in central Jersey to a great school, and old flying buddy, and my Area Director all rolled up in one.

Oh here is the website I built for them many many years ago if you or anyone would like more info. Fly High

Now back to our regular scheduled Bullet discussion.
