I have a few questions reguarding FID.

Recommended Posts

I am submitting my application for my FID on Tuesday hopefully.

The questions I have are to references.

For references is said friends no relatives, what range does that cover? Can I use in-laws like a cousin or uncle or just used to people who have no blood relation to either my wife or me?

Also should I apply for PP as well when I submit, even if I don't think I will be getting a handgun in the next 3 to 4 months?

Last question is it better to used my town Elmwood Park Police dept. or go to the State Police Barack's in Totowa.

Thanks in advance.

Use friends that are firearms friendly. Any anti-2A person can stop the application process in it's tracks.

Absolutely include several permits to purchase with the FID application. It's better to have them and not need them.

If your town has a PD, you must use them, not the State Police.

Welcome, and good luck. Let us know how long it took for you to get your FID Card and Permits.

Yes, include PP application. I was originally going to buy just a shotgun for home defense, but decided to also apply for a PP after reading about what a pain the process is. I am so glad I did. I bought a Remington 870 in December and a Walther PPQ in February, and I am so glad I got the handgun. It has been incredibly fun to shoot.

You can always get the pistol permit extended. IMHO, buy the handgun first. You can buy the shotgun anytime with your FID.

I've had a friend of mine use a brother-in-law before.

Stick with close friends as references to avoid any second guessing on what is considered family or not...

Get at least 2 pistol permits. Even if you use one or none, its a few bucks well spent.

Thats not always true as it is at the chiefs discretion and I think usually they re-new but its not a given. Just ask what their policy on that is, also if its before or after the expiration date as that too differs. And get the PP's they cost next to nothing and you'll have no regrets later.

Thank you everyone for the answers.

Of course I thought of a other questions.

Does the references need to be NJ residents or doesn't matter.

What ID is required when filing the paperwork.

I have other questions but I will make other post about them were applicable.

Thanks.
