Jfoster99 80 Posted August 28, 2012 I am taking NRA instructor and Basic Pistol in Oct. When I took the class as a student we worked our way up from .22lr to .45ACP using both revolvers and semi automatic handguns. I have the following I could use to teach the class Sig 230 .380ACP Ruger 6" GP100 38Spl Beretta 92fs or Glock 17 9MM Glock 22 40SW Kimber 5" 1911 .45ACP I need a .22LR to start students off with. What .22 revolver would you recommend for this purpose? Would I be better served with a semi auto ..22lr or perhaps a conversion for the G17 to .22lr? I am thinking best to offer at least two revolvers...
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted August 28, 2012 Does it have to be a revolver? I would say get a Ruger MK III or 22/45.
67gtonut 847 Posted August 28, 2012 Actually what the NRA "requires" for an instructor to have is: Single action revolver SA/DA revolver Semi-auto pistol No requirements on caliber.... In fact at my Pistol Instructor course .22 was not really recommended I started students off with my 686 and they were fine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk excuse the spelling

Come to think of it the .22 I used in the class I took as a student was a single action. So given this information I need to add a single action revolver. Why was .22 not recommended? Can anyone recommend a good single action revolver? In .22lr or perhaps .22wmr to satisfy the class requirement?
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted August 28, 2012 Ruger Single Six....is there any other?
Jfoster99 80 Posted August 28, 2012 In addition to the Ruger Single Six by whch all others are measured it seems I found these. The USFA 22/12 shot look nice but cost more then the Ruger.. Cimmeron Plinkerton .22lr SA Heritage Arms Rough Rider .22lr SA Chiappa .22lr SA Colt New Frontier Buntline ..22lr SA USFA .22lr SA 12 shot
67gtonut 847 Posted August 28, 2012 Another little hint: The SA revolver does need to be fired.... Just something to demonstrate what a SA only revolver does..... So any ol POS will do.. Then having a nice SA/DA revolver will be good for shooting in both SA and DA Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk excuse the spelling
