cutterOne 0 Posted January 2, 2013 As the title says, I'm going to be putting in for my first P2P. As I've always been a "rifle" guy this will be my first experience with the world, and associated bureaucratic hurdles, of pistols. My question is this: Do I go to my local PD and ask for the forms for a P2P? or are there additional forms I'll need to get from the state site? Also, will the fact that my FID was issued in the middle of July play any role in my P2P application being slowed down or sped up? Thanks for any input. TulsaJohn 1 Posted January 2, 2013 Your local PD should give you all the forms needed to apply for permits.

Vzguy 13 Posted January 2, 2013 You can fill in the forms online and print them. Take them to your PD. You need one of these: http://www.njsp.org/info/pdf/firearms/sp-066.pdf And one of these: http://www.njsp.org/info/pdf/firearms/sts-033.pdf

NoThanksImOut 0 Posted January 2, 2013 Never apply for just one. Two is an absolute minimum. Remember they're good for three months and then can be extended for another three, and you could be waiting for quite a while for them.

cigarsnscotch 0 Posted January 2, 2013 Also when you submit them back to your local PD they probably have a specific time that you can drop it off, usually something inconvenient for you.
BossyMossy 0 Posted January 3, 2013 Good luck Sir. I've been a "rifle guy" myself, utilizing only my FID card. However, I too caved and submitted paperwork for 2 p2p's. Unfortunately, I've been waiting since mid-september. Nothing yet.. If you have had a residence in Essex County, I would prepare to wait. Again, it's been well over three months for me and i've been told it may take an additional 3 to 6 months on top of that. Apparently Hurricane Sandy "wiped out" Essex County's ability to report on mental health checks. Ugh.. Good luck though!
cutterOne 0 Posted January 3, 2013 Thanks for the advice all. I'll be submitting for 2-3. Bossy, wow that really sucks!!! I've never lived in Essex, or anywhere in NJ before I moved here (Frenchtown) in '09. I hope it won't take that long. My local PD doesn't seem to have any issues, as a matter of fact, they seemed to be encouraging the P2P when I applied for my initial FID. We'll see. Wow that is nice to hear! I picked up my paperwork this morning for 3 new permits and the two people at the desk at my local PD (one a cop and the other a desk jockey) both gave me a look and didn't seem very enthused when I asked for it. pbkid6974 1 Posted January 4, 2013 From what i can gather, hunterdon county seems to be pretty straight forward with their permits. I live in flemington and my intial fid and permit took 3 weeks. It took two weeks for every one after that.
H.M. Murdock 0 Posted January 4, 2013 I've tried to use the NJSP forms before, years ago, but my dept made me fill in their form instead. Their form was an older revision compared to the online form (at that time) and it was printed on carbon paper
fatty 241 Posted January 5, 2013 I just submitted the application for more P2P's today. As soon as I walked in the officer at the counter yells "Hey it's the firearms guy!" with a huge smile on his face lol. I hope that means these will go through quickly so I can buy my first 1911. Luckily my local PD really embraces law abiding gun owners, which I'm thankful for.
