Why do schools have fire drills, when was the last time your class caught on fire ?

For the same reason there has not been a child killed in a school fire since 1958

I think the point he is making is that being prepared is a good thing. If not for those fire drills, if a fire, as much as it is unlikely to happen, were to happen, the kids are prepared. If someone breaks into your house, as much as it is unlikely to happen (depending on where you live I guess), you can be prepared.

What I was getting at is the reason for the lack of fatal fires is, as you mentioned, being prepared, but also the implementation of fire safety standards.

If schools were as aggressive in perimeter and interior protection as we are now with fire protection, I don't think all the media would have so much to blast us with right now.
