Feb 8th - Who is driving to Trenton?

Due to some things I have to take care of early in the morning, I won't be able to take a bus/train and I will be driving down to Trenton. I was just curious who else would be driving to Trenton. Maybe we could write stuff on our back windshields like "Shall not be infringed" or "NJ2AS" so we can let everyone know. Whaddya think?

For those driving is there plenty of parking available? I'm still on the fence as to whether to take the rail or to drive. I'm not looking forward to walking a mile if I take the train.

I do recall a free garage next to the capital building. I know there are a few pay lots nearby too..just need to get there early enough to find one...

Do you have any worries about leaving your vehicle there? I've never been to Trenton and all I've ever heard is bad things. Not sure if this is in the hood or not. I'd hate to come back to a messed-up vehicle. That's why I'm leaning toward taking the rail.

These lots are/were pretty secure. They are all in the shadow of the state buildings and courthouses. I have done jury duty there and never had issues. YRMV

Good point on the parking... I was going to ask, hoping those more familiar with Trenton could post some info on public parking available.

From their website:

Parking: Limited free public parking is available in the State House Garage. It is accessed from the rear entrance to the Capitol Complex, off Route 29. Proceed to the guard booth and have picture ID ready to gain access to the garage.

 

Metered, on-street parking is available along West State Street. Several pay lots are located within walking distance. Handicap parking is available in the parking garage and on West State Street in front of the State House and Annex and across the street from the State House.

For those concerned with the walk from the train station, cabs are readily fetched at the station.

 

There is also ample parking around the State House in public garages and street meters. You will not be able to use the limited free parking at the State House Garage due to construction restrictions and the purpose at-hand. I'll be on the bus out of Cheesquake, but if something changes in the weather forecast and we have nice weather and I feel up to it, I just may ride in on my bike and gift my seat to someone. Keep you all posted on that.

Trenton (at least that neighborhood) isn't as bad as you might think it is. It isn't Camden. Nighttime in certain areas are dicey, but generally not as unsafe as you think.
