H.M. Murdock 0 Posted June 7, 2013 Forgive me but what is your MO in your many stops?......."Good afternoon Officer,as your are no doubt aware, I am the proud owner of this BMW and most likely the primary reason you pulled me over but even if I'm not wearing my seat belt and speeding, please take in to account that I am being awfully polite and also you'll also notice that I've no Radar detector........That you so much for considering all these pertinent facts as you check my credentials" And this works for you? Excellent. Hahaha Add a magician's hand sweep across the dashboard during the Radar detector bit of the speech to show the officer it is just an ordinary dash board, not a magic one! Wolfy 51 Posted June 7, 2013 I keep a selection of donuts in the car in case I get stopped. Who is John Galt? I am so excited I figured out how to change my signature.
Old Dog 19 Posted June 7, 2013 Here is my opinion. The only two speeding tickets I got was when I used a radar detector. First off they go off all the time if you drive in urban areas. Then I found out the hard way that most radar guns are not constantly on and by the time you get the alert it is too late to slow down enough. I stopped wasting my money on them if for no other reason that the technology changes so quickly that what you own today is not so good two years from now. I seem to do much better relying on common sense things like just making sure that if I speed, there is someone going faster than me in front of me. I look for brake lights up ahead because people naturally slow down when passing a radar trap. When I had radar detectors I tended to rely on them too much and after so many false alerts, tended to ignore them until I got a good solid alert which by then, meant that I was already clocked. jackandjill 683 Posted June 7, 2013 I may get flamed for this, but some responses to Op question seem to jive with NJ attitude towards firearms. Interesting to see how psychology plays into all of this. 1. Why do you need radar detector, just drive slow ====== why do you need a 30mag AR, just use hands and kitchen knife or that 2 round magazine 2. Sole purpose of radar detector is go crazy over speed limit ====== Firearms are for thugs and criminals 3. If I catch you with radar detector, I will stick it to you ===== Legal owners of firearms deserve extra sticking for breaking any other law Not complaining, just interesting to see folks come with view point of the other side. bry@n 195 Posted June 7, 2013 I don't think a cop would stick it to you if you had a radar detector. If you acted like a douche or were driving really stupid, yes. I asked several friends that are cops and all said the same thing. The RD doesn't mean anything to them.
this_is_nascar 162 Posted June 7, 2013 If you're getting a radar detector, don't settle for anything less than a Valentine V1. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

O-gre 7 Posted June 8, 2013 Radar detector equals automatic speeding ticket. pulled over 3x's and zero tickets! Of course it pays to know someone
benboga37 2 Posted June 8, 2013 Lol been watching to much smokey n the bandit...Nope. CB is more effective than my Valentine 1 when on the interstate highways. Truckers and others with CB exchange info as to wherethe bears are exactly. Now on detectors , the Valentine's directional arrows and counters really makes a difference especially at night in an unfamiliar area. H.M. Murdock 0 Posted June 8, 2013 Nope. CB is more effective than my Valentine 1 when on the interstate highways. Truckers and others with CB exchange info as to wherethe bears are exactly. Now on detectors , the Valentine's directional arrows and counters really makes a difference especially at night in an unfamiliar area. This was true in past decades but I've noticed a sharp decline in quality reports 10-15 years ago. And truckers tend to point out positions that you would identify yourself with just a little SA prior to becoming a target. IMO trucker reports are most useful when a radio car is on the move (without a specific target), closing the gap from the opposite direction. In these situations the coppers tend to keep their radar gun on instead of POP'ing so if you're not speeding egregiously you will have sufficient notice from the detector to assimulate the prevailing speed. But if you're both travelling at a very high rate of speed toward one another the trucker's report can buy you enough time to shed significant speed and blend in. Personally I still run both 10m/CB and 2m rigs (for traffic nets and kicking tires of course, never to be used in the commission of a crime!) This post is intended for entertainment purposes only. this_is_nascar 162 Posted June 8, 2013 I run a CB in my mobile and have done so for the last 30+ years. The "bear" reports are few and far between nowadays, in this area. Back it the day, that was a different story, but in 2013, it's no longer a reliable means for tracking "smokie-bear". The V1 is the top of the line and has been for years and years. Sig226GuyNJ 128 Posted June 11, 2013 Went with the new escort max. I would hold off on the Max until there is more independent testing and the bugs are all sorted out. Word is, its range sensitivity is not as good as the band segmented Redline.

Sig226GuyNJ 128 Posted June 11, 2013 Where did you hear this? I haven't heard anything negative. escortradarforum.com Check out the review. This thing also falses more than the Redline, which is weird b/c Escort hyped it's ability to weed out falses. Realistically, at this point, the Max is just another 9500ix with more reactivity and sensitivity, but its sensitivity is not that of the Redline, and certainly not worth the $550 price tag IMO. On another note, why can't I paste links on here anymore??
