yep.... Fara 83.

Originally called FAA 81 (Fusil de Asalto Argentino 1981), FARA 83 born by a requirement of the Argentine Army to the Directorate General of Military Industries to replace the nearly obsolete FAL caliber 7.62 x 51 NATO rifle national design shoot the 5.56 x 45 NATO cartridge, softer recoil and more magazine capacity.

based on the image u provided I'm still going with Galil. the above rifle has a different stock, different rear sight and different handguard. also looking at his hand positioning, it looks like a different grip too....

It may very well may not be a FARA but this:

plus it says FARA 83 was produced 1984-1990... and this pic looks recent

doesn't matter.

There are plenty of countries currently using weapons older than that. Plus, with the blue uniforms, I am guessing Police not Military, which would make sense to have the older rifles, they probably get the hand-me-downs.

The only reason I don't think it is a Galil is I can't see the 90degree charging handle, the receiver seems to have a rail, and the front sight/gas block looks wrong. I also saw more pics of the FARA and some had the same stock.

Looking at it a little bit more, I actually think it is an FN FNC, not a FARA or Galil.

easy its Galil

I thought it looked Galil, too, although not a straight out or IMI Galil.

I didn't say it because the mag looks so small in the pic, and, like i said, it's obviously not a real Galil so that throws it out for all kinds of AK variants I don't know about.

You just gave me the confidence to ride your coattails :)

yep agree on these guys being police or such .

def valid point on the charging handle I cudnt make it out either. we can't see it or its not there...

now these place looks like Latin / South America. I don't think it's Argentina >> another reason I don't think it's Fara 83 since I cudnt find that they exported it. now the FNC is a great contender and it was exported to Venezuela !

so I did a bit more research and I'm gonna refine my original guess >>> it also looks very similar to Galil ACE. The Galil Ace was a colaboration between Indumil, a weapons manfacuterer owned and operated by the Colombian government and Israeli Weapon Industries (formerly IMI). it's in use in several countries in the region. chk out the pix and let me know what u think !!

Wall Street journal today. Story about Brazil police.

Great guess Jermz. You guys are so good at guessing rifles next time I'm just going to post a pic of the soldier and ask "what country is this?". :-)

After what happen a few weeks ago they may want to give the refs for the World Cup one of these along with their Yellow/Red cards.
