masterg2 0 Posted August 7, 2014 After procrastinating for years, I am finally going to build my first AR. Went out and purchased my Spikes lower today to start things off. Now to figure out what I want to do to build the rest. I may just go the quick route and order a complete upper assembly from Del-Ton, but I haven't decided yet. Buddy of mine has built about 9 of them, so he will be helping me assemble. I am really looking forward to this build. Here is the lower I went with. Got it from Howell Gun Works. Had a great experience with them http://www.spikestactical.com/lower-multi-forged-spider-bullet-markings-p-52.html Anyway, any input would be appreciated as well as different kits, parts, etc people have used. checko 180 Posted August 8, 2014 Man that's so open ended. We have tons of first build threads, check some out. What is the gun being used for, and what is your budget?
blksheep 466 Posted August 8, 2014 Delton has really good reviews and followings. BCM, Daniel Defense, Noveske are top notch compaines. Spikes Tactical is also very good. There are a TON of options. Like Check said it comes to money and your imagination.
T Bill 649 Posted August 8, 2014 Get a feel for what you want to do with the rifle. Then you can begin looking at parts for the build. Got to set a budget too! Lots of experience here just for the asking. Use it!
Vlad G 345 Posted August 8, 2014 You are going to have to choose a direction first. Do you want a light and quick carbine? Do you want an SPR type rifle? Do you want a precision rifle? Do you want an all arounder? Is it a range toy? Is it a zombie apocalypse tool? When you decide the answer to those questions, then you can start making decisions. masterg2 0 Posted August 8, 2014 Just putting it together to go have fun at the range. I'm looking for a light and quick feel. Budget? I'm figuring a total of about 700. I spent 118 plus NICS on the lower so I have some options. Tomorrow I will be looking at more builds on here. I have been he checking fewith he past few days which is what made me decide to go out today for the lower. No rush on my end so I'll have some time to research and get everyone's opinions. Thanks for the replies
masterg2 0 Posted August 9, 2014 http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/rifle-kits/psa-16-stainless-mid-length-1-7-freedom-rifle-kit.html Probably go with this kit. I am stuck on the stainless barrel for some reason. I was thinking of going with a 14.7" length, but for this price i really cant complain. Anyone else use this kit or palmetto? Thoughts? Most issues ive read about involve the shipping time, but im not worried about that.
blksheep 466 Posted August 9, 2014 Palmetto is good stuff. For that price its really a good deal.
