smell of Mercaptans in south jersey?

Recommended Posts

It is found naturally in living organisms, including the human body, it is the byproduct of metabolism.  Check yourself lately?

OK, that's even more stupid.

If you are clearly identifying the distinguishing odor of mercaptans then you are smelling something intentionally made by Man.

They are in garlic. Nobody cuts open garlic and calls in a gas leak. Different animal.

Mercaptans (thiols) are odorants added to natural gas so you can "smell" an otherwise oderless substance. But they also arise naturally.

When I was growing up the smell of sulfur compounds was all over NJ. It was so bad through Secaucus that you had to roll up the windows.
