After 2 year wait

Recommended Posts

Just picked up my daughter's birthday present - Pink Crickett.

She started asking 2 years ago after she tried Smokin 50's Little Buckaroo . Wanted to see if she would continued interest and she has. We usually use the GFH Crickett or 10/22. I would have had to use a shortened stock on the 10/22 which Old School was generously going to give to us ( use to be his daughter's) , but I really want her to learn on a single shot bolt . Her hand is small and her thumb gets caught under the drawn back firing pin . I'll just have to watch her grip , or maybe sand down a well under the firing pin so it clears her thumb.

Can't wait to give it to her on her birthday Sunday. In the morning . Before Grandma is over :o

+1 for The Bullet Hole. They always treat me great . Love popping in there during the day to B.S with the guys :)

Range trip with my daughter on Columbus Day ! I'm a little over excited lol

If she likes to shoot she's a rare little girl. Don't know your situation but credit to your wife as well.

Nurture the interest but as with everything else don't push too much. My father desperately wanted me to be a doctor. I refused. I showed him :)

About 15 years ago my hunting buddy and I were shooting clays in Flatbrook. His daughter, Lexi, got bored after about 15 minutes. "Daddy can we shoot the rifle?" "Daddy can we shoot the rifle?""Daddy can we shoot the rifle?""Daddy can we shoot the rifle?"

So we cut our session short and drove across the road to the .22 range. Lexi took exactly one shot, stood up, and said, "OK thanks daddy!"

Sandra doesn't swing that way...

At least she tolerated it. Hey don't use that to drive a wedge between you and wifey. It took me 8 years to get a gun in this house, 25 to get handguns, and now my wife actually wants to shoot. Me?

That's a great gift, Sandy. She's going to be so proud to be able to go to the range with Mom and take her own rifle.

You know she's going to want to shoot it as soon as she gets it, right? Are you going to show her the right way to take care of a new gun and give it a clean first?

I guess I'll have to look up how to clean it , huh? Why clean it if it is new? Ahem.

There is a black Crickett at the range . Next port meetup I will bring my daughter and the Crickett. I also have a Rossi pump action .22 that your older daughter might enjoy. It is an older gun , the stock is not too long. It is very light. I would say a typical sized 9 year old would like the Rossi. My 8 year old is the size of a 5 year old though :)

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
