carl_g 568 Posted November 30, 2014 Thinking of building a 300 black out AR and want to know if there is anything out of the ordinary that I need to know about reloading this caliber. I am comfortable reloading 223/556. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. What powders do you use? What dies seem to work well? Thanks in advance. -carl
lunker 274 Posted November 30, 2014 I don't mean to sidetrack the thread, but can I ask why the round has appeal to you when you live in a non-NFA state? If you had a suppressed SBR in it, I would be first in line to ask to shoot it. Is it just to have a 30 caliber intermediate round in your AR? I am not trying to be sarcastic or snarky. When i lived in Jersey I had looked into 300 Blackout, but discarded it because it does 't do anything an AK or Marlin Lever in 30-30 can't do much cheaper. Unfortunately, now that I live in a free state, i am too broke for NFA fun stuff. Figures.

Rob0115 1,105 Posted December 1, 2014 H110 has a lot of support for 300 and so does Lil Gun. Are you putting a can on it? If so consider an adjustable gas block and JP one piece spring and buffer. Missouri bullets makes a 245 grain lead that is nice subsonic.

carl_g 568 Posted December 1, 2014 http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/72687-lil-gun-vs-h110/Cool thanks there is a lot of info here! Does Lee make dies for this caliber?
medic2264 11 Posted December 1, 2014 yes Lee does make dies for 300 AAC Blackout. http://www.titanreloading.com/lee-300-aac-blackout-3-die-set?filter_name=300%20aac%20blackout&filter_description=true I think Titan reloading was the only place i could find spare decap rods. http://www.titanreloading.com/lee-se3009-ez-x-exp-300-aac-blackout?filter_name=300%20aac%20blackout

gunguy1960 2 Posted December 1, 2014 The 300 blackout ar is more adaptable in terms of ammo and accesories than the ak or lever action. An ar with the ak round usually has problems, so even in our communist state of nj the ar blackout can be rationalized if one tries hard enough, which comes from rationalizing dozens of previous questionable gun purchases. I recently purchased an advanced armament single shot in 300, just because.
T Bill 649 Posted December 1, 2014 Those that think the 300BLK is only a suppressed weapon platform have not spent anytime with it. If you reload, it is the 30-06 of the AR world. So adaptable, from 110 grain to 225 grain heads, subsonic to sonic, re-using old split/crushed neck 223/556 brass it has been a joy to shoot. Considering a bolt action now to complete the collection. It is very true that I have never tried it. Now that you showed all those bullet weights, I do like the versatility of it. It reminds me of 10mm (135 grain to 230grain). Up here in New Hampshire, all the folks I know of that have rifles in 300 Blackout (i.e. 2 guys at my range), only shoot it suppressed.

carl_g 568 Posted December 2, 2014 Man..the 308 bullets are pricey! Any recommendations on good cheap projectiles to get my feet wet with?
leadunderpressure 52 Posted December 2, 2014 You can run quality cast bullets in 300 blackout. That cuts the cost a lot. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
T Bill 649 Posted December 2, 2014 M80 147FMJ grain pulls work, about .15-.20 each.
carl_g 568 Posted December 3, 2014 I found 175 gr fmj's for $.22. Is that considered OK?
T Bill 649 Posted December 3, 2014 I have loaded Sierra 175MK over A1680 and they rock. I know what you listed may not be Sierra, but I would go with it. With reusing brass that would put you at .36/round plus or minus, good deal in my opinion. Hi-Tech Ammo has new m80s 19/100 or 90/500.

Rob0115 1,105 Posted December 8, 2014 I thought one of the advantages of the caliber was that you didn't need an adjustable gas block when running a supressor. Is this not true? Thanks I don't believe you do but it adds flexibility in loading options to adjust it. I also found that springs and buffers were a bit too much for it to cycle so I used the JP one piece.
