junkmanted 54 Posted December 29, 2014 then it becomes a pistolwhy the barrel is still over
vjf915 456 Posted December 29, 2014 why the barrel is still over 16 Well then by that logic, an AR with a collapsible stock and an 11.5" barrel is a pistol.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 29, 2014 Vj915. It would be illegal as you stated because the barrel is inder 16". Correct. Cmon work with me on this one. Itll have a 16.5" oal barrel length.

Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 29, 2014 Og. A pistol has to be under a certain weight. 40 or so ounces. Correct ??

junkmanted 54 Posted December 29, 2014 Well then by that logic, an AR with a collapsible stock and an 11.5" barrel is a pistol.SBR not a pistol Maybe I missed something but the OP never said anything about a short barrel !
PK90 3,570 Posted December 29, 2014 LEGAL Just like installing a pistol grip on a pump shotgun. Your AK is still a rifle. It is not a pistol. The barrel is 16+" and the OAL is 26+".
Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 29, 2014 Thank you. I thought so.

High Exposure 5,664 Posted December 30, 2014 Serious question: Is there a benefit to removing the stock other than "Because I want to!"? Is it more fun to shoot that way? More accurate? Easier to conceal? Less recoil? Is it to fool someone into thinking its illegal and prove them wrong? To bring attention to it? To be unique? Why take a fairly well thought out weapon system and make it less capable for no other reason than "'Merica!"? Just curious because from my frame of reference, I can't think of a single useful reason to do this.

Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 30, 2014 Ill shoot it that way and see how it goes. If i dont like it. Ill put it back on. I was just figuring out if its legal that way. I figured it was and now im convinced it is. Hell maybe ill buy another one and keep one stock on and one off. Ill see what i feel like doing. What is merica. Meissama 1 Posted December 30, 2014 Easiest way to know:Overall length 26" or more.Barrel length 16" or more. Those are the only measurements to worry about.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 31, 2014 Im picking it up tomorrow. Ill let you know how it shoots. Im going somalia style.

vladtepes 1,060 Posted December 31, 2014 AK folder is generally meant for easier storage and taking up a smaller footprint.. the gun is not designed to shoot that way.. you may like it.. and if you do.. cool.. but I have shot an AK like this with the stock folded.. and it was about as useless as a gun could be.. its already a fairly heavy gun (when compared to something like an AR or AK pistol).. and without the support of the stock? its just lame.. I imagine the novelty of what you want to do will last no more than 30 minutes..
Golf battery 1,223 Posted December 31, 2014 You hit the nail on the head. Novelty for me. As i posted before i can always put it back on. I just wanted to be legal if im having this in this configuration.
junkmanted 54 Posted December 31, 2014 will you be able to take it off ? What ever dealer sells it to you will need to weld or pin it .
AverageJoe 95 Posted December 31, 2014 Could always put a sig brace on it.
