Rob0115 1,105 Posted May 24, 2016 They only allow steel shot there? Anyone here frequent that location? I wouldn't mind meeting up and learning the rules of the road there with someone with experience.
mikeyjones 88 Posted May 24, 2016 Used to go there all the time when I lived in Montville. A bunch of good old guys. As far as I know they allow lead shot, unless that recently changed. Trap shooting is fun once you start getting the hang of it. Sent from my Z812 using Tapatalk

Rob0115 1,105 Posted May 24, 2016 I could be wrong I thought I had heard, years ago, they went to steel shot because they are so close to the river. I could be completely wrong.

Rob- just go and shoot. Theyll look at you funny if you bring a scary black gun, but otherwise they're pretty receptive to newbies. I really like their setup with the voice activated throwers. Rob0115 1,105 Posted May 24, 2016 I'm going to use the OL's Beretta SP1 686. It should fit in fine.
WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 358 Posted May 24, 2016 I shoot there and am a member. Lead shot is GTG. Friendly bunch of Fudd's. You can buy shotgun shells and other stuff like reloading supplies directly from their distributor when the deliver clays. Like others said, just go shoot. The guys who work the clubhouse are friendly and will get you going
WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 358 Posted May 24, 2016 Be warned though. It is incredibly addicting.
Tunaman 552 Posted May 24, 2016 They are a great bunch of guys. GFH had a Gold member invitational and we had a total blast. Shot about 10 boxes with the old Model 11/Sportsman. Membership is cheap. I am thinking of joining. They are www.northjerseytargetclub.com

Barms 98 Posted May 24, 2016 New computer system runs the birds now. It's not the honor system anymore. You talk at the line and a bird goes you paid for it.

Barms 98 Posted May 25, 2016 You prepay for birds. The computer counts them down as they fly. Modern technology. Club is probably saving a bundle. It's fine.
rifleman 90 Posted May 25, 2016 It is a very good trap field. I have shot at a few and this has a great background.
DDT1345 10 Posted May 25, 2016 I live about 5 mins from there in Towaco and always wanted to go. Just need to buy the necessary accessories...like a shotgun. Got the itch before my wedding. We got married at Skylands Manor. Shot at Thunder Mountain the morning of. That was 6 years ago now! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Tunaman 552 Posted May 26, 2016 What happens if bird doesn't come out or comes out in pieces? Shooting there all day I dont think I saw one bad bird...
Ian S 22 Posted May 26, 2016 What happens if bird doesn't come out or comes out in pieces? The controller allows for two extra targets per round for a show bird, bad targets or errors. Most places that use these prepaid systems do allow for a few extra.
