Rob0115 1,107 Posted August 8, 2016 Brand new 675 is that a good price?
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted August 8, 2016 Which version? Field or Sporting? I got my SRII 12ga Field 28" for $565 shipped from KYGunCo. With transfer it came out to about $600...
Rob0115 1,107 Posted August 8, 2016 Sporting. https://defenderoutdoors.com/mossberg-75443-silver-reserve-ii-over-under-12gauge-28-inch-3-inch-walnut-black It's 15 shipping and 20 for me to transfer at GFH. 710.27 to me.
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted August 8, 2016 Definitely would jump on that.
Rob0115 1,107 Posted August 8, 2016 You're a fan? What I don't know shotguns could fill a book. However, I'm enjoying clays right now and thought I could get a decent budget gun for fun. I usually subscribe to buy once, cry once but I want to make sure this isn't a fad. Plus I suck so I'm not sure a good 686 would help me. in fact I know it won't because I used my wife's last Thursday and I was lacking. However, I managed to spend the hour and half grinning ear-to-ear.
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted August 8, 2016 I have a SRII Field. Deerslayer has a SRII Sporting. It's a good solid shotgun. I prefer the fact that it has extractors over Ejectors (at least my model does). It's balanced well and shoots really nicely. Haven't had any issues with mine.
T Bill 649 Posted August 8, 2016 Tri Star Sporting Model 33410 is a very nice reasonable choice for clays. 30" barrels and ported from factory on Turkish Walnut, nice gun. Online low $600s. http://www.tristararms.com/products/over-under/sporting/
Rob0115 1,107 Posted August 8, 2016 632 shipped for the tristar. Which is better? There's about a 60 dollar difference all in. They both look nice the tristar is 30" ported and the moss berg 28" ported.
Screwball 483 Posted August 8, 2016 I just picked up a Silver Reserve II, same 28"... just with ejectors. It is currently at Maverick/Mossberg. There was a spot on the forend that was not finished (on the forward edge), which I emailed Mossberg and told them that for a new $800 gun, I don't want imperfections. Will it get nicked up? Very likely as a trap gun. But I want it to look good for a little bit. When I was in contact with Mossberg, waiting on their decision on whether to send it back, I noticed that when I fired the top barrel (either both or alone), the gun would lock up. I'm aware that there are break in periods, but I could barely open it with bending it over my knee. Let the representative that was working with me know, and he sent a label the next day. Wasn't quoted a time, so figured I'd wait two weeks... and then give them a shout if I don't hear from them. I definitely want them to fix it, as the gun is very comfortable for me. The ability to switch the first barrel to fire is nice, and I like the ejector system. Bought it since I never owned an over/under, and wanted to get into the sport. Krdshrk 3,878 Posted August 8, 2016 Screwball - is yours the Sporting or Field model? Strange that you're having those issues - hadn't heard of any like that before with a SRII... Only firing pin issues.
T Bill 649 Posted August 8, 2016 I can tell you about firing pin issues, my SR early model not II, has had this issue. Started again, needs to go back a second time. I keep it for the novices to use. I have seen more Tri Stars on the clay courses and no one is complaining.
Screwball 483 Posted August 9, 2016 Screwball - is yours the Sporting or Field model? Strange that you're having those issues - hadn't heard of any like that before with a SRII... Only firing pin issues. Sport... http://www.mossberg.com/product/mossberg-international-silver-reserve-ii-sport-wshell-ejectors-75444/ Crap happens with the wood... but I think the ejector on that top barrel is messed up. When it goes to engage, toggle is fine, just the action won't break. I did a lot of research into them, so I don't think it is a common issue. Firing pin issues tend to be the pre II models. Mossberg has it, and I'm sure they will get it squared away. I'd prefer to take it out sometime this fall, so hopefully it comes back soon.
Screwball 483 Posted August 12, 2016 For anyone looking at them, I got mine back from Maverick/Mossberg today. They received it on 8/1, so 12 days to get fixed/back to me. Fixed the wood... can't tell if it is the same or not, but not a huge eyesore from what it was. Small nick on the cheek of the stock wasn't there, but not bothered that much by it (gun will be used). The ejector issue was also fixed. Fire any combination of shots, no matter which tube first, and it ejects correctly. Breaking it open is easy, and the release lever does feel smoother. Can't wait to take it out.

DeerSlayer 241 Posted August 16, 2016 Mine was really stiff and it took a long time to break in. I actually took it apart, and with a jewelers file cleaned up all the hinge points. As well as lubed the shit out of it. Probably have 5k rounds through mine since I bought it. I did have the firing pin issue on the top barrel, I ripped the gun apart and fixed it my self with a dremel tool, had to round off a square edge of the hammer so it would fully depress the pin into the primer. I was getting really light primer strikes, not enough to set the primer off. But it's worked great ever since. I think I paid around $700 for mine when I picked it up. It also has extractors not ejectors. The ported barrels are nice on the shoulder after shooting all day. For a gun mossberg international imports from Turkey, I gotta say it's really not awfully made. I've been through the entire gun with every part out of it. It's decent for the price. Especially when you compare it to other over unders in the same price range.
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted August 16, 2016 Lubed the crap out of mine too - it opens pretty nicely compared to other O/U's I've handled in stores...
