Hornady critical defense ammo

Recommended Posts

Actually Critical Defense is specifically excluded from being a "hollowpoint", if that is you concern. See the attached memo to the NJSP.

Actually, one could extrapolate from that, that trhe same would apply to any ammunition that uses a polymer plug to fill the nose of a projectile.

Adios,

Thats irrelevant tho.. NJ doesn't limit what you can use in your home.

What are you using it in? Hornady Crotocal Defense is designed to be used in conjunction with pistols with shorter barrels.

If you are using it in a full size handgun, you will be better served with Critical Duty.

Like PB said, it is perfectly legal and excluded from the “prohibited” hollow point laws. As is Federal EFMJ, and CorBon Pawerball ammo.

Ray and Jack are also correct about the legality of using them in a HD weapon - but that’s a personal decision you have to make.

The Hornady Critical Defense/Duty and the  Federal EFMJ both perform well enough to be used in HD pistols while eliminating any perceived worry over legality.

No, you should be fine, but, from a terminal ballistics point of view, Critical Duty will probably perform better.

I’m most likely splitting hairs here - but it is what it is. The Critical Duty is designed for best performance out of that full size (4.6”) barrel. Critical defense is designed To get the best performance from smaller guns with shorter barrels.
