  1. There used to be shops near Round Valley. Hi-Way Sports north of Spruce Run in Washington used to get them but apparently no longer can get them. Anyone know of any place?
  2. My condolences. I had the same happen to me about 3 years ago. I had one large long gun safe at the time but I am on to a second and larger one now, using both. My first did not have electric on the inside but my second did. Shortly after getting the second I went and drilled to wire the first one up. Mainly for a golden rod: https://www.amazon.com/GoldenRod-Dehumidifier-Installation-Operation-Prevention/dp/B07W8JFN2F but also for LED lighting. As others replied you can't go by the manufacturer gun count if you have optics on your long guns. Maybe divide that rating by 2? I also like foam handgun organizers: https://www.amazon.com/Hunthor-Handgun-Holding-Organizer-Accessories/dp/B0BNK9ZVS7/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1DMCKAUN0NXSP&keywords=foam+pistol+organizer&qid=1688648132&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=foam+pistol+organizer%2Csporting%2C87&sr=1-4 (maybe not this exact one just an example) I can cram more in the safe without banging and scratching everything. Some safe doors have different storage options, some can be modified and some can't (sewn in pockets.) One of my safes has storage for long guns on the door and I am not a fan. The buttstock tray takes up considerable room on the inside and I think it actually less efficient use of space. That was on my first safe not the second. My thoughts on used... It would have to be one hell of a deal for me. I'm not as young as I used to be and I'm not looking to bust my back so I'd rather hire movers and also add the cost of a locksmith to set a new combination. Then the cost to get rid of the locksmith who knows the new combo (just kidding!) My first safe is from Browning and the second from Liberty Safe. The liberty came with more bells and whistles but I paid more for that. I'm old school so no electronic locks on large safes but I don't have a problem with electronic for wall/bedside/portable storage as they are cheaper and I don't mind having to cut into them it if needed.
  3. If you must don't bring hollow points. Also check on what NJSP has to say: https://nj.gov/njsp/firearms/transport-firearm.shtml You can't take it on bus or train so be sure to have someone pick you up/car service and put it in the trunk. If you have a NJ carry permit once you are in the car you can carry but I'd personally wait until I was clear of the airport property. If you don't have a NJ carry permit it's probably not worth bringing as it will live locked in the case unless you are on private property/at a range. As far as fees it likely counts towards number of checked luggage. Enjoy your stay!
  4. My 2 cents... Storage fees vary and RTSP seems to be the priciest on just about everything. I have been tempted to make a purchase before having my permit in hand but wanted to avoid your situation. I'd be pissed as any fees are adding to the cost of the gun but I see it from the FFL side if it were me I'd want to charge to hold your stuff too. That said never purchase a handgun in NJ without a permit in hand. #1 reason is Murphy's law and if you leave room for that to occur it's going to happen. (I'm assuming this was an in store purchase - not a transfer) If it were me in this situation I would first reach out to the local PD firearms detective and see where I'm at in the process to get an idea of when I might see them. If it seems to be a while for the permit I would talk to RTSP about a refund to save on storage fees or get a store credit or if they will apply a credit to purchase a long gun today to avoid any fees. I don't know what handgun you are purchasing but unless it's something special it's likely there will be another one available somewhere once you have your permit.
  5. I personally wouldn't have any use for this other than as a display piece. It comes with replaceable front sights which is nice but looks to have a horrible gutter rear sight that can't be changed so I don't see how this would be that fun to shoot. I look at it as a collectable piece so not for me as I like to shoot what I got. Perhaps at half the MSRP I'd be more interested but at the list price there are many other options I'd be looking at like S&W 686 or 66, Ruger GP100.
  6. I've hired 1 on 1 instructors at RTSP in Union a couple times for relatives and also a girls night for my wife and a couple friends. The relatives are from Europe, have zero experience and 2 young kids at the time (8 & 12) and I just don't have enough hands for that and needed some assistance. For the women I thought it would be beneficial to get professional instruction/second opinion with someone they wouldn't be afraid to ask a 'dumb' question. This paid off in spades! My wife now joins me at the range more often and got her carry permit as well. 1 on 1s are per hour. They have classes for rifle/pistol but you mentioned going beyond the basics so 1 on 1 may be what you are looking for. Probably best to give them a call to see if they can accommodate your needs.
  7. Ruger has great support so before you do anything give them a call.
  8. Hopefully one day before I croaked things will change here. In NewJerseystan they make all FFLs process through NJSP (you know so they can keep track of who has things - FNJ!) Theoretically if there is no backlog you could be cleared and take home same day. You would also have to purchase early in the day to make that happen. I bought a rifle last year and was told to hang out as they had approvals same day in the AM. I wasn't so lucky but got it the next day.
  9. You can get an idea here: https://www.njportal.com/njsp/nicsverification It lists the current submissions and what day they are working on. They seem to be working on a 3 day backlog currently.
  10. Where were you guys this morning? I literally just got home from the range not but an hour ago. I will certainly try different mags next week and see how that works out. Thanks!
  11. Been there done that no joy. The finicky firearm in question is a Springfield Ronin EMP 3". It just seems to be a combination of things being a geometry problem with the steep climb, pressure of a full mag and the bullet shape. It doesn't hang up every time and only when using the slide release on a full mag, sometimes. Enough to make me worry about a mag change. I guess I could down-load the spare mag to see if that works any better but haven't tried that yet.
  12. I mainly carry Critical Defense but I have 1 handgun that does not feed them reliably so ball for that one. Be sure to test the ammo actually works 100% in your particular handgun.
  13. Here's the latest I could find: Civil Action 3:18-cv-10507 https://casetext.com/case/assn-of-nj-rifle-pistol-clubs-v-platkin seems like they are punting as long as they can
  14. Wife and I had our appointment to submit our applications at the local PD (Piscataway) on 10/28/22. Fingerprints were scheduled within 2 weeks after. I received a letter from the court dated 12/16/22 acknowledging my application. Wife picked hers up at the local PD on 2/15/23, mine at the court 2/17/23. Of course she had to bust my nuts about it for a couple days Hers does say "Employee of armored car company' on the back, mine does not. Neither have any restrictions or any accompanying order.
  15. I stopped by RTSP (Union) for some range time last night and seen some caution tape across their selection of Others. Asked about it on the way out and was told they have 'suspended' sale and transfer of Others for the time being.
  16. My theory is they are happy to sell them to anyone willing to buy them until the FFL officially can't sell them any longer. The rule is apparently to go into effect/posted to Fed register on January 31st and the 120 days starts ticking to become compliant and I'd suspect they'd try to sell off any inventory during that time as well.
  17. There is already a thread 10 down from this new one: there is also separate about weapons: These seem to be on topic/not a law discussion. Or maybe I'm missing something about your post?
  18. I'll agree to this. Working with a single stack you'll have more grip options to fit your hand.
  19. Looking for one of these as a companion for my 92fs... it gets lonely and wants to stick its mag in other firearms
