  1. I'd avoid the Mossberg AR to begin with. There are plenty of local vendors that have entry level AR's at good prices. An excellent choice for entry level AR's are the S&W MP-15 Sport line.
  2. My best friend deals exclusively with Diana at Jewelry Exchange in Woodbridge. He raves about the quality, price, and service. Haven't used them myself, but he's one of those friends I trust unquestionably.
  3. I really like my SRS, but it's a bit heavy for what it is. They are pretty rugged, though!
  4. Actually, back in the 1960's, Colt designed, built, and tested a piston AR. They found that it was pretty much a solution waiting for a problem. I'm not saying that piston rifles don't have SOME advantages over DI, I'm just saying that the 'problems' are issues that you will never have as an AR owner in NJ. IMHO, that makes the 'advantage' a piston gun has over DI gun absolutely tits on a bull.
  5. Vortex makes optics that meet your requirements. I'm looking at their stuff for my Colt 901 7.62.
  6. I've never used Loctite on the grip screw. Ever.
  7. Speaking as an old sailor who cusses like one, I have to agree with the above poster. I wouldn't like that shirt to be worn around my family.
  8. Yeah they did that last year too. I love it!!
  9. I'm also considering a low power variable for my Colt 901. I have many of the same choices you have in mind, for the same reasons. The only one I would add to your list is the Trijicon VCOG. 1-6x24, with illuminated reticle. MSRP of $2800, but street prices are quite a bit lower. Plus, take into consideration it comes with a mount, the $$ looks a little better. ETA: reading is fundimental. You are looking for mil/mil type reticle/turrets. The VCOG has 1/2" per click and BDC. Choice of funky reticle or horseshoe. I'd chose horseshoe. Robustness of Trijicon products applies here, as I understand SCAR's are notoriously rough on optics.
  10. This horse has been beaten many times over, but: Piston AR's tend to be heavier than their DI counterparts. More reciprocating mass = more recoil. There is no standard or piston AR's, unlike DI, where a BCM BGC fits a Colt, which fits a DD, which fits a Spikes...... Can't do that with a piston gun, as they are all proprietary designs. Deal breaker, IMHO. Piston guns have their plusses: Sustained, full auto fire, yep, they beat a DI gun. In NJ, this isn't a problem, 'cause you can't have NFA toys here. Suppressed....maybe better than a DI gun, although debatable. Again, in NJ, not a problem, 'cause we can't have the fun stuff here. Overall, unless you have the hots for a particular piston gun, I'd stick with DI.
  11. Some vendors will not ship a non compliant gun to NJ. That's the problem I had with the 901. The vendor I bought it from would not ship it directly to NJ, would only ship to a 'smith outside of NJ. Would not ship to a NJ gunsmith. Rather than argue the point with him. I had him send it to Adco for the work.
  12. You would most likely have to have it made compliant, as FN doesn't produce. Compliant version. I recently bought a Colt 901 Modular Carbine and had the dealer ship it to Adco firearms for compliance work. Adco transferred it to my FFL in NJ for me to receive, after they made it NJ compliant. Very smooth transaction. I highly recommend them.
  13. As compared to what?? An A2 flash suppressor?? I use both the Battle Comp and the EGW A2 comp on my rifles. Both of them put out more flash than a standard A2 flash suppressor. Pretty much any TRUE brake or comp is going to have more flash than an A2. Don't know for sure what metrics (if any) NJ uses to decide what is a flash hider and what isn't. I don't think ANYONE truly knows.
  14. I've had luck removing stuck cases by pouring a little Kroil down the barrel and letting it sit for a few hours. Then, tap the case out with a brass rod and a mallet.
  15. OP, if you are in south jersey, you are welcome to try out my TA31's and see how they work for you. Some people don't like the short eye relief of the 4x32 ACOGs, but they work well for me and my shooting style. I was always taught to shoot NTCH, so the 4x32's work perfectly for me. Let me know if you want to get some trigger time on a TA31. I shoot at SJSC.
  16. It should be banned because it's so scary looking!!!! Lol
  17. I have tried several grips over the years, but find I am most comfortable with the BCM Mod 0. I have switched all of my AR's to this grip.
  18. Into electric helis. Have a couple of collective pitch 450's I'm flying and building a AH-1W Cobra. One of these days I'll get it done.
  19. They'll run nicely when dirty as long as they're wet (like a good woman should...lol), but dry and dirty, not so much. Pat Rogers and 'Filthy 14' says it all.
  20. We kill coyotes on sight on the ranch (Tx). Over the years, I've shot 25-30 or so. As you can imagine, they are a nuisance, as they will kill livestock. We have seen them slaughter baby goats, and not eat them, as if they were killing for sport. Some counties in Tx still pay a bounty for dead ones, usually $5-10 each. I have seen 2 coyotes on Atlantic Ave in Stratford. My wife thinks I saw a dog..but she's a Jersey girl, and wouldn't know a coyote if it bit her in the ass. I've seen enough coyotes in my day to know the difference between one and a dog. They are unmistakeable. They are very adaptable animals. Not suprizing they have a population in the busy suburbs. I have read before that they have been spotted in Central Park in NYC.
  21. I have a Horton Havoc 175. Reverse draw technology crossbow. Awesome bow. The reverse draw bows are not front heavy like a traditional crossbow, as the weight is over the trigger group. They balance much like an AR-15. Horton is out of business now, but there are other companies that make RDT bows. Scorpyd comes to mind, and Barnett also makes one. You can also find a used Horton. I highly recommend the Havoc, and the slightly older model Vision. These are both VERY solid bows. I would avoid the Fury like the plague, as it was a very problematic bow, and support/parts are non existent. There are many good choices for crossbows out there. Take some time and handle/shoot various bows. Bangers Sport Shop in Winslow NJ has a big selection of crossbows.
  22. I just pinned the lever on my Colt 901's stock using this method: http://calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=623365 NJ law does not specify HOW the stock is pinned, only that if a semi auto rifle cannot have a collapsable, folding, or telescoping stock if it also has a detachable magazine and a pistol grip. In theory, as long as the stock does not collapse, fold, or telescope, the spirit of the law is met. I am a humble engineer, NOT a lawyer.
  23. They look awesome! I'd be in for a 5.56mm shirt, when you get sorted with the site.
