  1. Sig P220 Elite Dark FN Five-seveN USG Sig 1911TTT or Sig P226 Elite Dark/X-Five Tactical/Mk25...hard choice since I'd like the option of multiple calibers Accuracy International AWP .308 26" PTR MSG91SS Benelli Supernova (or M3 Super 90 if in another state) And a couple [hundred] thousand rounds for each
  2. I've heard stories of people who do "couponing" like it's a job...buying coupons and belonging to coupon websites...who walk out of a grocery store with $125 in products but having spent $5. It is impressive what someone dedicated can save... Before seeing this thread today, I started a list of what I want in a bug out bag for my car. Not exactly the same thing, but I want a set of supplies for a situation that might otherwise prevent my getting home to the supplies here. All the prepping in the world won't mean anything if I'm stranded far away and can't get home...
  3. I got my steel just after EFGA no longer allowed it. Figures! I got mine off ebay, since I was looking for small targets for my .22s, but don't discount getting them shipped. I got a 2" and two 4" AR500 gongs for about $20-25 shipped, and I saw some pretty good prices for 8-12" 3/8 and 1/2" AR500 gongs on ebay as well. If you shoot .17s or .22s, maybe you can shoot the steel at WMAs (if you have a hunting license)? That's my next hope for what I bought...once I get the license...
  4. That is always impressive to see how much damage one bad round can inflict. I'm glad you are OK. Maybe you can make it into a SBR now...just cut it down at the end of the stock! Seeing stuff like this makes me rethink ever just wearing my glasses for shooting. I usually put in contacts to go shooting so I can wear shooting glasses, but some days I get lazy and don't wanna put in the contacts...and will simply wear prescription sunglasses... It doesn't happen often, but does(did?) happen, and this is what makes me rethink stupid decisions like that... Thanks for sharing!
  5. I just discussed this with someone, but in general terms, I feel everyone should have at a minimum: 2-4 handguns, my thoughts being 1911 and something from one of the quality/reliable manufacturers (Sig, HK, Beretta, Glock, FN, etc) in a caliber other than .22 a semi-auto centerfire rifle, preferably in a real rifle caliber a bolt action, preferably with a decent scope, in a larger caliber 1-2 .22 rifles - perhaps 10/22 and a bolt or lever action a shotgun - pump, semi, 12 or 20ga a military surplus rifle - I'm thinking Mosin one 'fun' gun - something kinda pointless for anything other than making you smile, like a Desert Eagle or S&W .500 I would feel covered for just about any situation, from training a new shooter through zombie apocalypse, with everything from the above set and good supply of ammo. If I were starting fresh knowing what I know now, I'd probably pick Sig 1911, Sig P226 9mm, Glock 22 .40, unknown AR platform rifle in .223 (and second .22 upper), Savage or Remington .308 heavy barrel bolt action and good glass, Ruger 10/22 takedown, Savage MkII .22 and good glass, Benelli Supernova Tactical, a Mosin, and a FN PS90 (P90 and 50rd mag in a free state) as a basic set... I am quite happy with the set I already do own, and will of course keep expanding.
  6. I got to play with one very quickly at Ramsey Outdoor in Succasunna and was impressed. Takedown is incredibly simple (obviously) and it feels very solid - I did not notice any movement like you might expect from a 2-part gun. Size of it taken down is impressively small. Anyone mounted a scope to one? Would that add any significant length to the rear section, or would a compact scope not add to the overall length?
  7. I was gonna type out a whole rant about kids today, but I came dangerously close to saying "in my day." ...I'm 31. I know a few teachers, and the stories they tell me about 'their' kids...makes me ashamed and scared for the not too distant future. Everyone does not need awards for participation. Everyone doesn't need 11 safety pads for going out on a bike ride. Ever go past a playground these days? WTF kind of fun can a 4 foot high slide be? Kids don't care about time out. Their rooms today are probably full of more fun electronics than my house. Give kids something to actually think about so they aren't likely to do it again. Just don't leave any marks, or post pics of your smiling kid with a rifle, cause DYFS will show up...
  8. Ehh...I'm surprised I didn't call it Ledgewood...Close enough... Just like how I shoot shotguns..!
  9. Washington Township in Morris County here - I saw a few fly around, but hardly even saw any attached to anything. They were around - heard them all around me...but never really saw any numbers. Apparently some of the parks by me were supposedly hit hard, but I didn't get to them so I couldn't say what kinda numbers there were. I was expecting worse in my neighborhood, considering theres few houses, and a lot of land that's not been touched... Worst I can say I encountered was an annoying noise in the distance...
  10. Ramsey Outdoor has 2+ stores - Ramsey and Succasunna - and tonight in Succasunna had Estate target load boxes for $6.99/25. These days for locally sourced target loads, that seems to be a good price. I'm sure there are other gun shops by you that will have target loads...check the vendor links in the forums to find em...and I think there's a map of store locations somewhere... edit: Randolph corrected to Succasunna
  11. Wait, my passwords like my name, or 'sex,' 'love,' 'God,' 'password,' and '12345' aren't good passwords? though '1sex2love3God4password5' would probably make a pretty good one... One of the problems with passwords is the term itself - 'password' to most people means a single word. Maybe a few numbers, or for the more security-minded, some special characters. Call it a 'pass phrase' and suddenly people realize it can be more than a word. A sentence that is easy to remember and fast to type is way stronger than a single word and number, as the graphic above shows... Most passwords will use one one of 72 characters. People using characters on the keyboard expand that to 94. Figure out how to use more of ASCII, and you could have as many as 256 possible characters. '±°²³ ' (plus/minus, degree, squared, cubed, null [not just a space]) are some I use regularly, though not in passwords since not all can be replicated on a phone or tablet. Another problem is that people reuse their passwords...so if someone gets your email password, they likely will get access to any accounts they find out about from reading your emails...and if they can't get in using your password, they can always reset it using the email address they now control... Something I hate is places not allowing use of special characters in your password, or limiting you to 8 characters or other similar nonsense. All hail the glorious 57-character long password!!!1!one!
  12. I've got the SP2022 in 9mm. Far as I know, the stock grips on the gun are the smallest ones available...the grip included in the box is larger. I do not find that the gun has significantly more muzzle flip/rise than other 9mms I've shot, though I only typically shoot my P226 and SP2022 side by side, and the 226 has a bit more weight behind it, so it doesn't seem to have as much flip/rise because of that. I have been quite happy with mine for the months I have owned it. One thing I will say - for HD use, I'd suggest you look for a model with the night sights - usually about $50 more than the model without. Something else to consider is the Sig P228 - a now discontinued model (well, M11 is current)...I've seen these used on gunbroker for ~$500. It's a good way to get into an alloy frame Sig for not a huge investment...if you don't mind getting a used gun. If you can find a Sig re-certified model, it might be worth looking into (red band on the pistol grip) for a little more money... Glock makes some SF models, which are apparently for smaller hands. However, I am not sure if these are available on the smaller calibers, or only on the .45ACP/10mm frames. The Glock 17 and 19 are well respected 9mms. I have the 23, the .40 equivalent of the 19, so I can't really compare to a 9mm. I shoot the Glock well... Whatever you get - good luck...
  13. On the plus side, that's a really good anti-theft device...unlock the pliers, put em in your pocket, and no one is going anywhere in that car. Spend money for The Club? Eff that...
  14. Neither...I have a 360 that barely gets touched...I don't like consoles and tried forcing myself to try one...but I still can't stand the controllers - especially for shooting games. The hardware is outdated, the resolution lower, and games are more expensive than on PC. I don't have a powerhouse computer system, and yet virtually all the games I play I can play at 2048x1536 - about 1MP higher resolution than that of HDTV. If I wanna play on my TV, a quick hookup to the TV via HDMI and I'm set in seconds. Computer is hooked up to the home theater, so I can take advantage of 7.2 surround sound... The new generation of consoles will be too expensive for what little they offer me...lack of backwards compatibility means I'd have to keep the 360 too... Maybe when the XBox One is available as a refurb for dirt cheap, and someone has hacked it to disable the mic/cameras (or I rip that crap out myself) then I might get one...
  15. Sunscreen is a definite...I got a lot of color last one I went to in June... It was a lot of fun as always...even if it made me want more shotguns after trying a bunch there... I'm not 100% in yet, but I'm hoping to come, and may bring some friends if I do attend... Hope to see you guys then!
  16. I'm also so glad that this technology will somehow embed itself [via magic?] into all the existing guns and make the world a safer place for the children... and for police during a state of emergency... In the months before these guns become the only kind you can get, the amount of normal pistols sold in this state will skyrocket [and make post-Newtown shelves look absolutely overflowing]...and once it does go into effect, legal handgun sales will drop to like 3 a month, and drive people 'underground' so they don't have to get any of these terrible ideas that should never have even gone down onto paper, let alone into prototyping...
  17. Nice gun...good choice! I have the Sig 1911 TTT, which looks pretty similar, but it looks like the TTT has the more 'Sig-profile' slide. It is a blast to shoot...enjoy yours!
  18. Benelli Supernova is what I've got... Benelli Nova Tactical Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590 are also good pumps... Go to a store and fondle all of them and see what fits you best... What works for me might not work for everyone...
  19. I forget what I paid, probably around $380 two years ago...sure you can get one online cheaper, but factor shipping and transfer fees, that will likely add $65+ to the cost. Ramsey tends to be a little high, but usually not excessively... Sometimes they are lower than other places...so who knows... Mine is at least partly a metal body...no idea if they make one with more metal...but I'm fine with the weight of mine. You could get the collapsible stock one shipped to a FFL who does modifications. I'm kinda thinking I wanna get the collapsible stock for the look, though cheap ones probably rock back and forth as much as the cheapass solid stock.
  20. I would buy some of that, even if it is fake and/or photoshopped. And then end up under surveillance by drones. And would then need some kind of 'solution' to handle the drone infestation over the house... Maybe I'll have to get two boxes....
  21. I've heard good things about rranges, but haven't ordered from them yet...I need a new stock, cause as mentioned, it is pure crap...I have airsoft guns with better/more solid stocks... Word is it IS an airsoft gun stock on the GSG... I have a GSG522SD - it does lock back. Maybe the clerk was talking about the cocking handle? Gun is fun to plink with. I find it reasonably accurate. Looks badass and I had fun with it when it was working properly... Issues... (besides the stock, those retarded 'pins' they use, and the screws needing loctite) First thing I encountered is the spring for the bolt catch is prone to falling out on disassembly. I put a little thick grease that holds it in place in the opening, and it's stayed put so far... Google "GSG5 light strikes" Eventually these guns seem to develop light strikes. Mine did with a few thousand rounds through it. Disassembly down to individual components of the bolt is a PITA, but once you learn how to (also somewhere in the google results), it's doable in under an hour. I contacted ATI after mine developed the light strikes, and they sent out a new firing pin and firing pin spring for free, though I have not installed those yet. A common fix is cutting the firing pin spring 3-4 coils (I did 3) and it seems to have worked for me so far. I still have had a few light strikes after doing this, but it may be ammo-specific. I have a feeling some ammo uses a harder case than other brands, so that could be the cause after the 'fix'. I'll be going to test this soon with some cheap bulk ammo, which may work better anyway...I was using some 1700fps Agiula ammo. So...it's a fun gun...gets some looks...shoots pretty accurately...but a pain in the ass to clean and maintain. Even if you maintain it well, there is the potential for light strikes in the future... All that said...I'm happy enough with mine...I kinda feel like I spent more on it than the gun is worth...but I still like it. For anyone interested in one, I would suggest doing research, and factoring in a new stock, some screws, and pins into the cost. (I also got the spare parts kit, to make it look like an MP5 again, instead of the post-lawsuit crap they all ship with now).
  22. C17 is an impressive aircraft...it is the 'fighter jet' of the cargo airframes... At the McGuire air show a few years ago, they demoed one by taking off and doing an impressive rate of climb, some banking I'd never have thought a cargo airframe could do, then a short landing, followed by backing up, and a short runway takeoff...
  23. The only loads I've not wanted to shoot a lot of are 3 1/2" magnums...I expected the heavier duty loads to kick more than they do...and I find it a very comfortable gun to shoot... Friends often seem to be unable to handle as many rounds as I do...I may just have more 'padding' on me than them? Nonetheless, I think my Supernova may be my favorite gun...
  24. I assume bhunted is talking about low recoil HD loads or typical low-brass birdshot loads... The inability to put the tritium inserts on the open rifle sights is the only thing I don't like about my gun. I did my own low-tech night sights instead...
  25. The +2, mag clamp, and follower are all Nordic Components....my future Supernova will also get those parts... I believe I got them from Cactus Tactical... If you look on Benelli's website at the M2 3-gun, it sure looks exactly like the Nordic mag clamp and mag tube extension on there...that says something to me... I had the Nordic components waiting for me before I even had the gun in my hands... Something else to look into - Benelli makes night sight inserts for the ghost rings if you plan to use this for HD.
