  1. If you have been fingerprinted before for firearms purposes, then you don't need to do it again. However, if the SBI does not have electronic fingerprints on file, you need to get them done.
  2. IIRC 200,000 tasers owned by members of the public for lawful purposes was sufficient to establish common use in Caetano v. Massachusetts. I don't think that is a difficult hurdle to overcome for the number of bump stocks owned, whether as a novelty item or otherwise.
  3. If they insist on a scanned copy, you should be able to get that done at a Kinkos, or maybe your local library. I do not recommend you give the original SP182 to the police as you will need it when you renew your permit.
  4. I carry the same gun regardless of the weather - was a Glock 19, now a CZ P-01. They are about the same size. Even with a winter coat, I often go indoors and take the coat off, so the gun is carried in an IWB holster at 3 o'clock with my shirt over it. My coat has a cloth tab on the main zip so it is pretty easy to open in a hurry and then the coat can be swept back as part of my draw stroke. The shirt can be lifted with my support hand, or if necessary, I can lift the shirt with my strong hand to get on the gun.
  5. Getting training is good, and classes like this will teach you more about using a gun in the real world than standing in a port ever will. That said, training classes are there for the instructor to pass information to the students. Once you have that knowledge, you need to practice it on your own time in order to turn it into a skill. Using classes like this is a very expensive way to practice. I appreciate there are not many ranges that will allow you to draw from a holster and move around the range. There are at least 2 that I know of, however. What is more commonly available is action shooting matches such as IDPA, USPSA, 2 gun, ICORE, etc. For a relatively small entry fee, you get to move around the range, draw from your holster and engage multiple targets. Also, you get to spend time with other shooters who will usually know something you don't, so you get a free mini lesson while you're there. I'm not saying there is no value in repeating a class. Typical students will retain 60% or less of the material presented, but if they go away and practice that material and make it a subconscious skill, the next time they attend the class they will be able to retain a good deal more of the 40% they didn't retain the first time. A good class is like a Mel Brooks movie. The first time you see it, you get all the gags in the foreground and enjoy the movie. The second time you watch it, you know what to expect from the main gags, and you start to pick up on the gags that are in the background and you get even more from the movie.

Since nobody answered the same question a week ago, I'm going to guess that nobody here has. Give it a try and let us know how you got on. The process is pretty straight forward now. If you need any help, please ask.
  7. NJSP were required by the new statute to determine the training requirements by July 1, 2023. They missed the deadline and published some "Interim Training" on July 18th. This was a half-effort rehash of the RPO training materials, and they missed some references to the retired officer. The CoF was HQC2 (modified) They republished the "Interim Training" on July 21st. This is where the magic date came from. On Sept 17th, the AG issued a memo alongside a new set of training requirements which they labelled CCARE. In the memo the AG says that if you did a qual that met the requirements published on July 21 or something substantially similar (with regard to holster use, reloading and firing at least 50 rounds, 10 from each distance required in CCARE or farther), you didn't have to do CCARE to keep your permit. If Shooters was doing quals in August without holster draw, they goofed. At least they are offering to make it right for free. As a side note, I qualified with some new handguns on July 19th using the HQC2 (modified) CoF and my instructor signed the then current SP.182. This was the newly issued standard, but 2 days before the date the AG quoted in his memo. My local NJSP barracks have told me in writing that I have met the requirements to keep my permit valid after December 31st despite my SP.182 being dated prior to July 21st.
  8. They were swarming like crazy at the Clinton WMA when I was there a couple of weeks ago, too. I have not seen any increase in their number around my house.
  9. If there is an EMP event, but this particular phone is saved because you put it in a special box, what are you hoping it will connect to after the event? The cell towers are not going to be working after an EMP event. Even if they are, what about the computers that will be needed to activate the service? A ham radio might make some sense as that can be used without any other infrastructure apart from the other party's radio.
  10. How deep into the weeds do you want to go? Bullets have a ballistic coefficient, which is an approximation of how they fly through the air and the rate at which they decelerate. It is only an approximation as the bullet will behave differently at depending on speed, air pressure, temperature, trajectory, rotation, humidity, and a bunch of other things. The generic apps will get you close, but if you really want to know what your load is going to do in your gun, you need to test it and build your DOPE chart. I'm no expert - I just have an idea of how little I know about it. Hey, I'm a handgun guy! I don't have to think about complicated things.
  11. Follow the link on the first line of @Krdshrk's reply. The quote is taken directly from the NJSP web site.
  12. This is totally expected. The next thing will be for CA to appeal it to the 9th Circus and from recent example, the same anti-gun en banc panel will grab it and stay the ruling even though they will have to ignore their own assignment rules to do so.
  13. Not the case in my experience. I got an ALS for my 1911 too, and the ALS button is significantly farther to the left of the grip than is found on ALS holsters for striker fired guns. This is to make space for the thumb safety on the 1911. It also has part of the holster body flared out to protect the thumb safety that you need to reach around to get to the ALS button. I have reasonably large hands (I can hit the mag release on my 1911 without having to turn the gun in my hand) and reaching the ALS button is a bit of a stretch. After deactivating the ALS your thumb is actually just below the thumb safety, rather than in position the release the thumb safety. In use, I found it to be unintuitive to swipe with my thumb twice - once for the ALS lever and again for the thumb safety. I tried it for 1 practice session and never used it again. If you pay postage, you can have it for free. Unless you really need level 1 retention (you don't for PPC style matches) you should get something else.
  14. I have a S&W 1911TA which also has a rail. The Safariland 578-683 pro-fit holster works. I also have a Blade-tech which fits well. https://blade-tech.com/products/classic-owb-holster?variant=6067181256732
  15. If both family members live in NJ, yes.
  16. The discovery phase is complete. This is the next step. NJ has to respond by November 3rd.
  17. If you feel the need for Lvl 4 armor, why aren't you carrying your rifle?
  18. $3.15 at BP in Phillipsburg tonight. Quikcheck was $3.19
  19. The only wrinkle I see with keeping it in the car is that PA has similar to/from laws as NJ unless you have an LTCF.
  20. When I travel I take handguns in my range bag into my room and leave long guns in the trunk out of sight. I take the range bag back out to the car when I go out from the hotel. As you say, it will be unattended at some point either way. By moving it into your room, you are exposing its existence. By leaving it concealed in your trunk, you skip that step. Additionally, it is not the type of gun that would be desired by miscreants. They would be far more interested in a handgun that they could conceal.
  21. Because at that price, they are made from crapite and only work for one bolt before they are fubar
  22. "longstanding verification procedures that make sure firearms-carriers do not pose a threat to public safety" If the verification procedures are working, what is the threat that licensed firearms-carriers pose to anyone? If they are not working, why have them? The repeated contradiction of kids need to be safe, and prohibiting people from carrying to protect their children is moronic. I posit Murphy is an oxymoron - an eight sided idiot. He's an idiot every day of week and twice on Sunday.
  23. Both the Model 14 & 16 are K-frame guns. J-frame is smaller.
  24. Just to close this out, after numerous continuances, the killer was finally sentenced today. https://connecticut.news12.com/hunter-accused-of-killing-skinning-ridgefield-familys-dogs-pleads-guilty-to-1-count-of-animal-cruelty
