  1. Yesterday was a happy day... I called the PD and my permits were in, so I could finally pick up the Walther/Manurhin PP that I bought two months ago. Turns out the PD called my Dad (who was filing for permits at the same time) and let them know that all the permits were available a month and a half ago. However, they never notified me. Long story short, the PD asked if I could be there by 3:00, so I got in the car, grabbed my new permits, and took them right to RTSP where Artie finally got my new to me Walther PP in my hands. Here she is: 1972-1973 Walther/Manurhin (made in France under license after German demilitarization) PP in .32 ACP. Former police issue (has JW2501 stamped into the frame) and in great shape. Came with box and both magazines, and I was able to pick up a Manurhin PP manual in German off Earl's Repair Service for another $25 to complete the set. Put 150 rounds through her right away, the majority were within 4" at 7 yards. Definitely shoots great for a 40 year old gun, and shoots better than my .380 PPK with a LOT less felt recoil. 2. Wow, prices went up a wee bit since I was there in May... but I was happy to pay $28.95 for Titegroup. I'll still be happy to pay $31.95 for Titegroup. That being said, its a great bunch of guys. I spend $50 each time I'm in there and BS for a while with like minded individuals.
  3. As a logistics guy, I look at things like sourcing. When the s*** hits the fan, what can you get? What can you get reliably? 9mm. Used around the world. Everyone can get it. In a pinch, it can be resupplied by England, or Canada, or even Latvia. It may not be the best round ballistically, but its easy to get and easy to shoot. You can source domestically, or via allies. Nothing worse than having the greatest guns in the greatest caliber, and not being able to get ammo when you need it.
  4. Bunch of High Powers in the Cabela's in Delaware. Some are in better shape than others but IIRC prices were as low as $300.
  5. I use sonic cleaning when rebuilding scuba regulators. I'll probably give it a try when I get my new hydrosonic cleaner. Don't exactly want to mix hydrocarbons (gunpowder) with high oxygen environments (deco regulators). But what I will say, is with the right cleaning solution, I can get years of caked on salt and lime residue from a regulator. Great for caked on stuff, but if you want it shiny, you still need to polish.
  6. I just left Rockaway... if I would've realized that, I would've gotten 8 boxes instead of 4! Didn't notice until I checked my receipt!
  7. I'm a GoPro guy... I've got a Hero 3 Silver edition and have a borrowed a buddy's Black Edition on several occasions. I use them for just about everything... Scuba diving, mounted to my mask or a pole Riding my motorcycle, helmet or handlebar mounted Driving on some fun roads, I have a windshield mount Seeing what my crazy dog does while I'm not home I take it to the indoor range and use a small tripod They make Picatinny rail mounts as well. Unfortunately nothing I own has a rail system at the moment. GoPro just released the Sportsman mount which will clamp onto a barrel of a long gun... I want to try it out with a shotgun next time I shoot skeet.
  8. Take this with a grain of salt, I'm an Apple Fan Boy... That being said, the iPad, IMO, is the most versatile of all. I got my mother a Kindle Fire when they first came out, she was super excited. She read one book and went back to paper, until I gave her my generation-old iPad Mini when I got an iPad from work. I've since played with it and found that the touchscreen is less sensitive than the iPad, the apps are less intuitive, and the interface is lacking in many ways. It's not sure whether it's an eReader or a tablet. Real identity crisis. Galaxy and Nexus, I find the interfaces lacking. Less intuitive than an iPad, but a little more feature rich. I've found the iPad Mini to be the perfect compromise. Portable. Able to hold in one hand. (I've dropped it on my face while reading in bed and survived!) With the Kindle App, it's a great eReader, but also surfs the internet well, and plays games well. I travel with my iPad 2 -- not the Mini for work and I very seldom actually open my laptop while I'm on the road. I manage my finances, my itineraries, etc. all from my iPad. You can do well with either of the IOS devices or Android OS devices (Galaxy/Nexus) but I'd avoid the Kindle Fire (bad interface) and Surface (even worse interface, IMO) altogether. If you want something that's just a reader, the original Kindles are GREAT, especially with the Paperwhite feature, but that's all they do. However, if you want a tablet that makes a great reader too, the iPad Mini is the winner in my book. Just don't try to read in direct sunlight.
  9. I agree... I'm done with PSA as well... I won't go back to PSA if they offered me 1,000 rounds of CCI .22 for $10. Back in May, I placed an order for 1,000 rounds of CCI .22 at a dime a round, the website showed it in stock. Reading the fine print, it can take up to 5 days to ship, so I didn't worry. After a week of not hearing anything, I checked the site. It was out of stock. Then it was in stock at a higher price. Then it was out of stock. Then it was back at an even higher price. I emailed to inquire and was told it would ship by Wednesday. I emailed them back to tell them that I was dissatisfied with the lack of communication, and asked if the ammo was indeed in stock and whether or not I should cancel the order for a refund, which was ignored. When the ammo didn't ship on Wednesday, the last date I was told, I emailed them back because they missed the initial shipping date, and then the revised shipping date, after jacking the price up twice on the ammo I had bought. I asked again outright if they had the ammo in stock. Only then did they send an email back saying they were waiting for a "partial shipment" from CCI. At this point, they sold me ammo showing in stock that they did not have, held my payment for nearly two weeks before shipping. They did not communicate any delays to me and were rather unresponsive until I threatened to cancel my orders. When they finally did ship my ammo, they didn't tell me. I sent them yet another email telling them that I was appalled by their customer service. They had three chances to tell me the inventory wasn't in stock and my order would be delayed. They blatantly lied to me when I asked if the ammo was actually in stock. And when they finally shipped my order, there was no communication. As someone who spent years working in customer service, making calls to customers telling them we don't have the inventory sucks. But more often than not, the thing that angers them more than anything is not setting reasonable expectations. If you don't have the inventory, tell the customer, and tell them when you anticipate getting it in. If I had known that I had essentially placed a backorder right off the bat, I would have gone somewhere else and spent more for my ammo. Needless to say, despite what they can do with an AR, I won't be giving them any of my money. Poor customer service has lost them a potentially lucrative customer.
  10. Very cool! Definitely on my bucket list!!
  11. Credit card... ... but in all seriousness, I throw $20 in a box every week that goes into my unplanned toy fund. If I have enough $$$ in the box when a new toy comes up, I buy. Simple.
  12. Trained to Tec 40 and currently finishing my DM. Gas Blender and ScubaPro technician here. So yeah, I dive when I'm not traveling a ton. Unfortunately this year, I've spent 3/4 weekends on the road for work, meaning I'm sleeping that 4th Saturday instead of diving. No shore diving for me in Jersey, but you'll catch me on the Gypsy Blood from time to time.
  13. I bought 222 rounds of Winchester Target for $14.99 yesterday... pretty bad when I'm getting excited about $0.068 a round. Damn shame there was a limit of 1 box/customer. My P22 doesn't hate it.
  14. While I've put a couple hundred rounds through a rental G42, I've put thousands through my PPK. First things first, if the PPK/S spur is your only complaint... there's a fix for that... LOTS of shooting! I've got a callus built up where the spur touches my hand. Yeah, it can be a little tender after about 200 rounds in an hour at the range, but it's not drawing blood like the first time I took it to the range and put 250 rounds through targets. If you find a PPK or PPK/S made by S&W that shoots reliably, keep it. I found one that'll eat anything without any problems... anything except aluminum cased ammo. I love my PPK and when I move to PA, I think it will be my carry gun. That being said, the G42 is the only Glock I've ever enjoyed shooting, and will probably pick one up in the next couple of months if the improvements prove reliable. I've found that I'm becoming a big fan of the .380 cartridge, and now that I'm reloading, I can do it for about $0.14 every time I pull the trigger!
  15. Sadly there's a difference between legal and logical in a lot of cases. Frankly, when people started getting in my face, I'd probably up and leave. At that point, I'm pretty sure I'm no longer enjoying myself. That's why I'll always take CC over OC.
  16. Can't say enough good stuff about RTSP either. I'm there AT LEAST once a week. Ventilation is the best of any indoor range I've experienced... but I can't compare to GFH/WPR as I haven't been there yet. ...and the sound levels are tolerable. With good ear protection (electronic muffs, I don't double up).
  17. This might be the way to go! Both .32 ACP and .380 Auto in stock. I'm going to check out a box of the .380 first since that's what I load the most and have tons of brass floating around... and I have to shoot the .32 I have to collect some brass
  18. Based on the fact that I can't find ANY bullets for .32 ACP, and the ammo is more than my .380, I'm looking at the possibility of casting. Does anyone around here cast their own? If you do, might you be open to showing me the ropes the next time you cast? Advice for getting started?
  19. Three boxes??? That's one trip to the range for me! I have about a three month supply on hand at all times assuming I'm going twice a month. Ammo is now one of my biggest expenses, that's why I learned to reload!
  20. Cool! I think I might start doing the same thing!
  21. I'm 27 and nowhere near retirement. That being said, I can't wait to get out. Trying to transfer down to our Nashville, TN office... I can effectively double my income based on lower cost of living and live in a free state after all!
  22. This bodes well, especially the 231. Titegroup has been popping up more and more lately!
  23. Big +1, last time I was there I picked up some X-700 and some Titegroup. Super nice bunch of guys, happy to chat with me. When I told them I was a Walther guy they said "here, look at this" and pulled out a gently used PPS in .40. If it was a 9mm, I would've walked out for the price they were asking.
  24. I'm going through exactly the same dilemma right now... What I've been told by Walther is that it should be shipped overnight in the plastic case it came in. What I've been told by my FFL is that if it went through them, they I would need to pay for shipping, and when it came back new NICS fees. What I've been told from FedEx is that I could have a pickup scheduled, or drop off at a FedEx hub, and would have to overnight it (yay corporate discounts!) and should be boxed before arriving at the shipping location, and the package should contain no ammo. I asked about markings and they said none required by FedEx, but maybe by state laws. What I've been told by State Police is that it's fine to transport as long as its securely locked up in the trunk of my car, out of reach, and without ammo. Needless to say, NJ doesn't make this easy. I've got the thing in the case (extra cardboard around the foam to ensure a snug fit so nothing rattles around in shipping) and in a box, which is then in another box. I'll be taking to FedEx next week so it can only be in the system for one day. If I ship today, it'll be at FedEx until Monday when Walther finally opens after the weekend.
  25. Wow, Kenilworth and West Orange are a bit of a hike... but worth it!
