Need help indentifying rifle?

Anyone info,how much it's worth ,year etc.would be appreciated.Got it from a lady l worked for.lt was her husbands.Has scope mounts but l don't have the scope.Single shot .22lr., fold up door knob rest.Only markings are 22lr H.M. Pope.From the research l've done l believe it was made by Winchester.Thanks

You could have a Stevens Scheutzen Rifle there. Winchester made model 1885 Scheutzen rifles as well. Most of these had Pope barrels. The Door Knob Palm Rest is a rare item as far as I can tell. Check this out. http://www.singleshotrifles.com/schuetzen.html

Just checked my Gun Traders Guide. They show a similar Stevens Rifle. They were available in many variations. Hard to scan the info so I took pictures for you. The Scheutzen models are considered collectors pieces and command considerably more than the standard models. The websites I listed before show rifles in the $2000 - $ 3000 range.

Do not, REPEAT DO NOT clean it up! Leave it with that great patina on it and it will be worth more.

Thanks for the info everyone,gives me some more sites/names to research.Never ''cleaned it'',just keep a light coat of oil on it.Already learned my lesson when l tried to clean an old coin!! It will be up for sale, after some more research.Have a few more antique rifles too,l'm going to sell.
