Col. Mortimer 11 Posted August 31, 2010 OK, who is planning on going? I'll be there. Ralph and Karen are on vacation so we really need people to come early, as in 8:00AM, and help setup. I will be an RO on one squad. The weather should be great.

Maksim 1,504 Posted September 5, 2010 btw, guys, you seriously have to try this. Standing in a port and putting holes in paper is no where as fun, nor a challenge of skill as this. thanks to ronhonda for the pointers.

Anyone can shoot paper standing still (almost anyone) Trying to shoot paper or stell as you are moving, under the pressure of a timer, with people watching, makes it more interesting. Also for you zombie or SHTF group, this would be good practice for it.

Guest Posted September 5, 2010 Maks did great! More of us need to come out and participate in these matches. Its only 20 bucks if you join USPSA. It makes standing in a port shooting seem like being in a really nice car that only stays in park and neutral. These matches put your gunskills in DRIVE.... tommy3rd 132 Posted September 5, 2010 I would need a whole lot more practice before I join. I don't wanna embarrass myself after seeing Ray shoot at BH and Maks in that video.
coldsolderjoint 84 Posted September 5, 2010 I would need a whole lot more practice before I join. I don't wanna embarrass myself after seeing Ray shoot at BH and Maks in that video. Everyone has to start somewhere, and at every match I've ever shot at, everyone was very accommodating to new shooters. Safety is the #1 priority. Keep your muzzle safe at all times. Other than the few safety rules, the other rule is to have fun! The only thing I don't like about matches is that they can get quite big and it can be a long time before it's your turn. But I guess that comes with the territory.
Tactical Monkey 51 Posted September 5, 2010 Nice shootin' Maks
Maksim 1,504 Posted September 5, 2010 There were plenty of new shooters who were fairly new to handguns. Most of all, this makes you better. At no point was anyone pissed off at the newbies, and everyone was very very very helpful. So if you were even considering it.... come out next time, all you need is a gun with at least 4 magazines. If you have a glock, that is fairly cheap. If you need one to borrow, someone should have one or just ask me, I have a browning high power with 4 mags that you can use. Maksim 1,504 Posted September 5, 2010 Match fees are typically around 2 20 or so. If you join the uspsa for a year, 40 bucks, your first match is free. Shongum made it awesome in that after the regularatch, they had a shotgun stage. They typically will do rifle too. Talk about fun stuff.
Wildcat_40 1 Posted September 5, 2010 It was nice to meet you guys yesterday. Now lets get ready and practice more for Oct. 2.
