An interesting read on a guy who used to carry.

Recommended Posts

Thoughful, but I have issue with his refusal to renew. One of the things I dislike the most about people is that they retreat from an issue or a challenge because it is a pain or there is something flawed in the scenario. It is always better to stay and be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. His refusal to renew his CCP in his state gives the one less person... gun grabbers love to cite those numbers as evidence that CC and gun ownership is not necessary in a modern world.

I see his argument that he will carry again when all 2a rights are restored, but that aint never gonna happen in many states. He should have kept his license current and as a CC holder, fought for change from the inside.

He is giving up for the wrong reasons. He is clearly not from NJ, sounds more like PA ... yet he is not renewing, because he is waiting for his full 2A rights handed on a platter! Ain't gonna happen on its own.

He is naive when it comes to the whole legal system, not just the laws and statutes on the books, thinking that all 2A rights will be cleanly protected, no ifs and buts. Most laws/statutes are not black or white, they are ambiguous (by design) and more often than not subject to interpretation by the public, the judges and even the jury (which can be easily confused!) They shouldn't be, but that's the reality. Mindless laws get on the books when some idiot has an idea (or has nothing better to do) and it passes for several reasons, one of which is the gross incompetence by the ones voting on it without thorough review. Laws designed by committee is another common consequence, since "opinions are like a**-h*** and everybody has one".

To make matters worse, add to that the misinterpretations and at times blantantly authoritarian and misguided enforcement by LEOs. Wrongful arrest suits be damned. Lawyers of course thrive on this like vultures.

On a related note, since LEOs are not going to "serve and protect" the public (we have evidence of this; they should get out of the way), this makes a strong case for the right to self-defense / carry open or concealed, castle doctrine, and over arching 2A. Yes, even in NJ!

Despite what you may believe.......

Police have no duty to protect you!

The essay and stated case law found at

www.firearmsandliberty.com/kaslerprotection.

html proves beyond the possibility of

misinterpretation that “police have no duty to

protect an individual, because an individual is

supposed to protect himself,” even women and

children.
