Yep Mmatic, agreed. The uniforms and marching (with some theatrics added) are leftover from British colonial army. The whole ceremony has a long history and performed every day since 1950s. I believe that handshake is a recent addition. And also they used to intentionally slam the gates really hard.

The two countries never signed a peace treaty and officially still at war.
