Rifleman1 32 Posted February 28, 2011 I am looking for a storage container that will hold 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammo so I can buy in bulk and save some $$$'s. Anybody know what size storage locker I'd need or what I should look for?
DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted February 28, 2011 Depends entirely on the packaging, but 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammo ain't that big at all. Two examples of 1,000 rounds of 9mm: - 20 boxes of 50 rounds, ~12 3/4" X 9 3/4" X 2 1/2" - 4 boxes of 250 rounds, ~9 1/2" X 6 1/2" X 4 3/4" If you stored them loose, 1K rounds would *easily* fit in a .50 cal ammo can with space left over. MedicYeti 96 Posted February 28, 2011 If your dumping the rounds into a container and not keeping the factory boxes, a 50 cal ammo can holds close to 1000 rounds of 9mm, but it starts to get a little heavy.
bry@n 195 Posted March 1, 2011 those green ammo boxes from cabelas holds about 1250 rounds with no issues./
Caine 147 Posted March 1, 2011 What Bryan said - those dry storage boxes are awesome. alec.mc 180 Posted March 1, 2011 Yah, like said - 1000 rounds isnt that cumbersome of a storage dillema, just got my shipment of 1000 rounds of PMC bronze 9mm, shipping sticker says it weights 28 pounds.

71ragtopgoat 23 Posted March 1, 2011 I would use the 50 cal ammo can. They just seal so much tighter then the Cabela's box. I have two of both cabelas and the 50 cal. You cant go wrong with either one. Check http://gun-deals.com/ammo for the best price.

njitmetal 2 Posted May 31, 2011 I'm a big fan of actual ammo cans. Both .30 and .50 caliber cans. I do have 3 of the cabelas plastic "cans" and they are OK. I wouldn't buy them, they came free with some .22 ammo I purchased a while back.
alowerlevel 77 Posted May 31, 2011 .50 cal ammo cans are what I use. http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/24742-50-cal-ammo-cans-buy-1-get-1-free/
GRIZ 3,369 Posted June 1, 2011 If you stored them loose, 1K rounds would *easily* fit in a .50 cal ammo can with space left over. You can fit 1000 rds of 9mm in factory boxes in a .50 cal ammo can depending on the factory packaging.
Aleshka 0 Posted June 1, 2011 I have 4 Cabela's boxes and none of them provides a reliable seal. And one deformed so badly that the cover doesn't even match the bottom part to form a seal. And I store them in a dry and cool crawl space in my garage, so the deformation wasn't provoked in any way. So, 50 cal. surplus cans are the best. GRIZ 3,369 Posted June 1, 2011 I've found that if you wrap a case of ammo in shrink wrap it keeps pretty good. I have several wooden ammo boxes I got from CMP HXP ammo. I use a kitchen garbage bag to line the inside to provide moisture protection, put the ammo in the bag, tie the top, and screw the lid back on.
Rifleman1 32 Posted June 1, 2011 These ammo cans have a good seal, can be double locked if you choose and hold 1,300 rounds of 9mm or 1,000 rounds of .45. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=756256
alec.mc 180 Posted June 4, 2011 the military style ammo cans will hold 1000 rounds ( qty: 20 boxes of 50 )
Rifleman1 32 Posted June 9, 2011 The MTM Ammo Cans are similar to Cabelas. 2 pack for 25.00 and I can fit 1300 rounds of 9MM not to mention that they can be locked with a padlock. 800 rounds of .45ACP but the box is heavy. I think 400 rounds of .45 ACP weighs in at 25 pounds.
