1911 manufacturers

Recommended Posts

So I was searching the net and looking at reviews etc..

I saw the e series S&W 1911 and it was nice.

I have seen the Kimber Super Carry Pro but decided Kimber is just not an option.

Seen some STI's and I am impressed

But then came across Dan wesson, any info on Dan wesson?

STI, loctaed in Georgetown, TX, makes a nice selection of singlr & double stack 1911s in 45 ASP, 9mm and 40 S&W. High marks for CS, reliabity and fit&finish. They are hard to see and touch. If I knew a local dealer I would be in my car today. Hopefully I would use good judgement and leave my $$$$ at home.

I know that street well. Just this guy just sell out of his house? Is there a sign? I've driven past there 100 times and never noticed.

STi makes really nice guns that can fit many budgets.

Their customer service (IMHO) is probably 2nd to no one.

Many gunsmiths use STI based parts to build big dollar custom guns.

I might sound like a fanboy, but I am. I own 3 STI's and I can honestly say they have been ultra reliable.

Also I know the people World Class and they are exceptional. But if you are considering buying an STI, buy it from Dawson Precision or Brazos. The upgrades and packages they offer are top notch.

Thanks guys. That was what I was reading as well.

I am such a fan of Sig's, I haven't spent nearly anytime looking at other platforms.

My interests have been swaying from Sigs and I am looking into all sorts of things I never looked at before. Between Glocks, M&P's, revolvers and 1911's....I have been busy.

In my opinion, Dan Wesson has lost their niche. They were always the well made 1911 that was much better quality than a Kimber, but still priced well below semi-customs from Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Ed Brown, etc. I think that CZ has improved the quality control consistency from when DW was owned by Bob Serva (who now owns Fusion Firearms), but they no longer sell at that price point (prices got jacked up last year, old models were discarded and new, more expensive ones, were introduced). I had bought my Dan Wesson Commanders for around $1100. They were the best guns for where price and quality intersected, but they are still production guns. Now that the nicer Dan Wesson models are selling for $1600 and up, you may want to consider spending just a few hundred more and getting the semi-custom that is actually hand fitted.

Take a look at Crazy John at 1911Heaven. His prices on Les Baers are the best around. He has Thunder Ranch Specials for less than $2k.

I have an E-Series waiting for me at my FFL, which I should have in my hands in a couple of weeks (once my 30 day wait for OGAM is up). You are more than welcome to check it out and shoot if you like, once I have it. I've read nothing but excellent reviews on them so far, and they are very nice looking pistols.
