Recommended Posts

A friend of mine just unwrapped his van from the shooting we had in little egg harbor a while back, the insurance co still has not decided if they are going to pay for the repairs. he had it at the races sunday and i took some pics with my phone.

he lived next door to the shooter. him and his wife spent 4 hours hidden out in their house.

How can they not pay for repairs. It should be covered under comprehensive, just like if a vandal did a number on it....

Comprehensive isn't mandatory in NJ, and it's pretty expensive. If the guy doesn't have lots of money, and since the van looks older, it's more than likely he didn't have comprehensive coverage, which means no insurance to pay the repairs.

Not necessarily. Most handgun rounds only go through one side of a car, so you'd be safe. Now, rifle rounds would be a different story.

It depends, if your in the car, or outside behind it, or if your behind the engine block, or if someone is shooting under the car. There is no uniform surface to a car. A handgun round even 9mm solid point will go right through a door and depending on where it hits the second door it will go right through that one too. I've seen it happen in many videos where cars are used as target practice. Supports in the doors are not solid, and are usually just cross members, you have a 50/50 chance of having a bullet hit the sheet metal pass clean through and right through the other side, or it could be stopped by a support. Its like the difference of shooting through a window or hitting one of the pillars that support the roof.

One particular video comes to mind, which is the mythbusters episode they used phonebooks to "bullet" proof a car.

Your best bet would be to use the engine as cover, even then your not assured to be safe, and you still have some coverage from under using the front wheel.

Back on to the original topic, it would be interesting if the van owner used some of those fake bullet hole stickers to cover up the actual bullet holes...

Would it be possible for him to sue the estate of the deceased shooter for the damage?

I would think so... if the deceased has debt the estate is used to pay it off, what is left goes to the heir.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in

    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
