My city only mails out the forms. The problem is that they don't track the receipt of those forms coming back in. For example, if one of your references forgets to mail it back or if it's lost, don't expect a call from your PD down the road telling you that they're still waiting on reference to come back.

In Robbinsville Twp, two forum reference forms are in the packet the detective hands over to you. I had my 2 references completed and sign the forms

and turned them in a few days later, with the rest of the paperwork. They never called my references and I got my permits in 3 weeks.

Same deal last month when I applied for 2nd permit, although this time, I just had to write in my references on the form and again, they never called

my references and got the permit in 13 days....couldnt be easier in Robbinsville.

Not true in my town. Last year our Lt called me after 5 weeks saying everythings been done just waiting for a reference to come back. I took care of that within hrs and 2 days later had my PPs.

Glad to hear that. I wish they'd extend that courtesy in my town.

It is really up to the PD as to whether they follow-up with the references. It is totally within their purview as part of the background investigation which is why the STS-033 asks for two references. As has been pointed out, some PD's may make contact initially, but not on subsequent applications. Some do it for every application. Some don't bother at all - afterall, you'd have to be a complete moron to list a reference that may badmouth you, so what's the point? While recommended by the NJSP, it is at the discretion of the PD that accepts your application.

Adios,

The townships don't care how they waste money and resources. Their money and resources are unlimited.

Total government inefficiency every step of the way fueled by anti-gun PC BS.

Talk to your mayor or councilman on the police/public safety committee..

They are elected officials an have an interset in keeping you happy.

Marlton calls the references. They also added an un-announced visit to your home where they check your driver's license. My P2P was yesterday and an officer was here last evening.

So, instead of chasing bad-guys, your PD feel it more necessary to waste time doing this. What a f*cked-up situation.
