New Member Union County

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone. I am a new member. I live in Union county. I recently purchased my first handgun (Glock G19 Gen 4). I am looking for places to shoot. I found some info online about the Lake Island Rifle and PIstol club. anyone have any info on it? I have checked out RTSP in Randolph and I know of the union county range in SPringfield that is open to non LEO on Sundays only. I hear it gets super crowded and tough to get into, does anyone have any experience going there? I also checked out The old Bridge Private range but it seems a little too pricey for me right now. I doubt at this point I will shoot enough to make it cost effective.

There are not a lot of choices that don't require a drive.

Besides what you have mentioned, there is the Bullet Hole in Belleville.

If you want to drive further there is Shore Shot and Brick Armory in Lakewood.

There will be a new place in Woodland Park i(Point Blank Range) n a few months.

Hello and welcome to the Forums!

:hi:

Somerset County Fish & Game Protective Assn is in Bridgewater...

However, having said that...

BE ADVISED - SCFGPA is NOT accepting new members at this time.

Thanks everyone. I see SCFGPA is not accepting members at this time and I have heard that might be the case for the rest of the year unfortunately. I was definitely interested in checking it out. I have been up to RTSP and it is very nice. It seems like lake island and SCFGPA would make more sense for me as far as location and price.

My nearby ranges, Cherry Ridge and Reloaderz are still closed.  Reloaderz's shop is partially open but the range is not.
I can see it will be weeks or months before we're able to shoot.  It will be a painful drought.

I have a membership at GSSC in Lakewood.  The guys there are awesome and I love shooting there.  But there are limits to an indoor range.  I'm planning on joining Central Jersey Rifle & Pistol Club this month.
What's been your experience with the club and is it worth the $$?

With so many registered shoots going on, I thought I'd try a new range in South Jersey and visited Quinton in Salem County and have since gone back.
It's a nice facility overall, offering Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays and 5-Stand. I've been there twice for Trap and Sporting Clays and both were busy, but not crowded. On the Trap field, the shooters were pretty laid back and friendly and the woman, Lisa, who was running the show was super helpful. I went with my son and both being new to Trap, I appreciated the advice from the guys just hanging out. It's the kind of place that gets a lot of regulars and they sit around and chew the fat and, when there's enough for a squad, or when Lisa is trying to fill a squad, someone will get up and join. You know there are regulars when a shooter goes down into the trap house to check on the trap or set it up for doubles. It was a pretty good mix of people, yeah, plenty of middle-aged and elderly men, but a few women and juniors as well.  It was a very comfortable place to shoot and I recommend it, though it is a haul (for me) being so far south.
They only have one Sporting Clay course as far as I know and it's nicely laid out in the woods along winding, stoned paths. We found the presentations fairly hard - definitely more difficult than the Woods course at Cedar Creek, for example. Lots of longer distance targets.
I don't shoot skeet but they have a couple of skeet ranges that look to be in good condition. I've not seen anyone on the skeet range either time I've been there.
Prices per round weren't bad - $30 for 100 Sporting Clays and $5 for a round of Trap (non-member prices). Clubhouses are nice. No ammo for sale.

      Hey everyone, need your help.
For a number of years I had an idea but we never fully implemented.
When you are researching a gun store or a range, before you go there, what type of information are you looking for?
What information do you wish was on their websites that is not already there?
What information do you NEED to have?
What information is Nice to have?  What would be awesome to have?
      Thanks!

Can someone tell me if Heritage Guild in Easton PA allow you to shoot steel case ammo such as Wolf for your AR or AK?? I know RTSP does not allow it. Why I don't know other then they don't feel like separating the brass from the steel.

      Thanks,

      Bob
