Fighters at speed

Recommended Posts

US fighters at speed over my house heading towards NYC 11:10 am --- Anything going on??

I don't see them often -- Last time was a few years ago when Obama was in the air and a small aircraft encroached his airspace -- Time before that, the towers where burning.

I'm in the corner of Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties.

My wife is working in Piscataway and she's heard them too. Last time I saw them was escorting the shuttle to JFK. Before that, they were screaming over my head on 9/11.

I speculate that Nick is right. they may be patrolling since it is the UN General Assembly this week and Obama is speaking there today.

More info:

http://nj1015.com/seeing-fighter-jets-over-nj-heres-why/

Officials have scrambled fighter jets over central New Jersey after an aircraft violated airspace restrictions.

FAA spokesman Jim Peters says the temporary restrictions in the New York City metropolitan area were imposed Tuesday as part of the annual gathering of the United Nations General Assembly.

Peters says the violation occurred west of New York City over Somerset County, New Jersey.

There’s no word yet if the aircraft has landed.

Unless you are piloting a small aircraft, or want to carry a gun, or want to protect yourself and familly, or..........etc, etc

You need to read the small print.

Ken

More like hire a team of lawyers to interpret the small print for you. LOL

It was reported that there were 2 incidents of small airplanes busting the TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) and being intercepted by F22s. Don't know if that is true, not aware of F22s being based anywhere near here. Ususally F15s or F16s and Coast Guard Helos do the intercepting.

As fast as those puppies fly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were based in Florida, LOL.

But seriously, I thought that was "different" also, in that they were F-22's and not 15's or 16's. Maybe media got it messed up? If there are 22's flying around NJ I sure would like to get a look at 'em.

The two aircraft were escorted by the Raptor's to Central Jersey Regional Airport (formerly Kupper) in Manville where authorities were waiting.

I bet when you are in your Cessna and a couple of these fly up your tailpipe it puts a wicked stain in your underwear...

Yaaaa! I can only do 150 knots... but then I check for active TFR's before I take off.

I don't know about escorted -- How about circled multiple times. Those fighters kept doing circles around them from what I heard. I couldn't see them over manville, trees in the way but I sure could hear them circling. Probably went around 8 or 9 times.

I did get a good look at 1 fighter after the planes must have landed -- it flew right over my backyard following RT 22 heading towards NYC. It wasn't very high up. Was maybe 3 or 4 minutes after the circling.

Do the 22's wings sweep back? The fighter that I saw sure made me think of it's wings swept back. It was moving pretty quick. It did have the 2 distinct tail "wings" as the picture above.

This, I still cannot believe that there are still pilots that take off without checking for TFRs or weather, that's just basic stuff that needs to be done before each flight.

They are pretty capable in slow flight mode.

Sometimes even the controllers are not sure. Coming back from Oshkosh I had to argue with NY Tracon that the outer ring of a pop-up TFR had expired even theough the inner rings were still active so I could get back into Central Jersey Regional. Otherwise I would have had to divert to Trenton.
