this_is_nascar 162 Posted November 19, 2012 I'm in the market for a replacement stock for my Remington 870 Express Tactical 12-gauge. Not sure what I want totally, but it must be of the synthetic style with a pistol grip. I wouldn't mind something that had a shoulder mount as part of the stock, assuming it was removable. In addition, the ability to store/mount some shells on it would be nice too. My goal is to shorten-up my 870 a bit to make it more manageable in a closed-quarters/HD/SD situation. Show me what you got, what you like and what you'd recommend. I'm currently perusing the "Post Your Tactical Shotgun" thread to get some ideas as well. rightisright 3 Posted November 19, 2012 http://www.amazon.co...ords=knox+stock I run one of those on one of my 870's. It really cuts down on felt-recoil and allows faster follow up shots. They also offer one that's like a plain M4 stock without the recoil-reducing mechanism. ETA: My mistake. I have the first generation stock: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KICH6A/ref=wms_ohs_product I have no idea what the differences are.
Parker 213 Posted November 19, 2012 I have none of these, but think the link to the article may offer you the details for a few of them. http://www.rem870.co...-remington-870/

DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted November 19, 2012 Also take a look at this thread: http://njgunforums.c...ock-for-my-870/ I'm sure RayRay will also be along shortly to tell you that pistol grips are stupid, and Scrap will write a new love poem about his magpul stock along with a cheesecake-ey photo essay and centerfold... The Magpul stock is the bomb. Worth every dime. Now i actually typed out a poem but I deleted it because I don't really like to show off , believe it or not. Ray Ray 3,566 Posted November 25, 2012 What would the gun be used for? How tall are you? What's wrong with the original stock?
this_is_nascar 162 Posted November 25, 2012 What would the gun be used for? How tall are you? What's wrong with the original stock? HD/SD only. Nothing wrong with it necessary. I think I have it narrowed down to either the straight Hogue 11" LOP stock or the Choate Mark 5. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted November 25, 2012 Okay, any stock you feel comfortable with. But there's no need for any fancy dancy adjustable/side folding/ fangled dangled stock. Keep it simple. I do like lil scrapy's stock
Purple Patrick 638 Posted November 25, 2012 I looking at the magpul stock as well but I have a question. Will the magpul Forend not fit my super mag because of the ripped barrel? I don't see why that would interfere
DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted November 27, 2012 "ripped" or "ribbed"? The rib is on the top of the barrel, correct? If so, the magpul forend should work without a problem.
TK421 2 Posted November 27, 2012 Not that I'm going to have the money to even finish my current two AR projects any time soon but future plans for my 870 include this Mesa Tactical recoil reducing stock kit with a Magpul MOE+ grip and CTR butstock: http://www.brownells...facturer_1=MESA TACTICAL PRODUCTS, INCxzzx
this_is_nascar 162 Posted November 27, 2012 Damn. I'm not so sure that I paid that much for the complete gun new.
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted November 27, 2012 AR style stocks are not very comfortable on the check. Just be aware of that.
this_is_nascar 162 Posted November 27, 2012 Damn. I'm not so sure that I paid that much for the complete gun new. Also, I can't imagine getting all that much of a solid cheek-weld on that stock, although I guess it depends what you're using it for.

Ray Ray 3,566 Posted November 27, 2012 You beat me to it. They tried to use a check riser and it just isn't as good as a standard stock.
this_is_nascar 162 Posted December 8, 2012 Does anyone have experience with any of these Mako products? That 2nd one is quite pricey at $280 and change. http://www.themakogr...ct_p/uas870.htm http://www.themakogr...grf870-fksb.htm I really think of all the stocks I've looked at online, the one that I like the best is this Remington ShurShot. The only thing holding me back is whether or not this will impact using my stock iron sights, in the case of my Express Tactical, the XS Ghost Ring. I've read mixed reviews where some say that the stock iron sights are fine and other have said they are not. http://www.amazon.co...d/dp/B008JEXMLS
Steve_G 51 Posted December 9, 2012 Just went through this same decision myself. The stock that came with my 870 express synthetic is just a little long for me. I didn't want an AR style setup, it's a shotgun not an AR. Then I saw Scrap's Magpul setup and I like it. I ordered the set today.
this_is_nascar 162 Posted December 9, 2012 I've read nothing but great reviews about the Magpul, however I just can't get past the looks of that thing.

Yes, bought and installed that one. I got it for just over $200 at the Mako black Friday sale:
this_is_nascar 162 Posted December 9, 2012 Thanks. I'll look at that thread. What's the "Upgrade to GL-Shock" $25.00 option on the ordering page? That puts this stock at $300.
