k3c4forlife 0 Posted January 23, 2013 Looking for people to come together for a build. I have done a bit of research, but I'm pretty overwhelmed. Me and two buddies are looking to do builds. Anyone with experience looking to help a few newbies through their first AK47 builds? Located in Andover, Sussex Cty. Thanks
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted January 23, 2013 Going to do one or two with two other members sometime soon-ish
CageFighter 236 Posted January 23, 2013 i'd like to get in on it. i have two Saigas that need to be converted 922r. all depends on the availability of parts nowadys.
MarkWVU02 47 Posted January 24, 2013 I just picked up a Saiga 7.62 and so did my buddy. I'm going to need about 2 months or so to scrounge some extra cash and find the parts but I'd be in.

CageFighter 236 Posted January 24, 2013 i guess the site is back up now. it was shut down due to overwhelming orders.
MarkWVU02 47 Posted January 24, 2013 Yeah it's back. Seems the only thing they don't have is triggers but they have almost everything else you need...depending in what you want to do with your build. I'm looking to go all wood classic look with mine. My "tactical" gun will always be my AR
SJG 253 Posted January 24, 2013 if you watch the build videos on carolina shooters supply webpage, you will learn it all. If you have any problems, join the Saiga 12 website, and hundreds of members will be online to help with any problems you have
CageFighter 236 Posted January 24, 2013 watching videos is fun, but it would also be nice to have build party with everyone just in case we get stuck, or need a 2nd hand.
vladtepes 1,060 Posted January 24, 2013 what kind of build are you planning....
CageFighter 236 Posted January 24, 2013 what kind of build are you planning.... u coming to lend a hand?
MedicYeti 96 Posted January 24, 2013 I may be interested. I'm inexperienced with the AK style rifles so forgive my ignorance. When you say "Build" do you mean starting with a stripped receiver? Or taking something like a Saiga and converting it? Thanks.
Big Jay 0 Posted January 24, 2013 Is this a parts kit build with a new receiver? Or are they Saiga conversions? HUGE difference. Saiga conversion: dremel, drill press AK build: Hydraulic press, pressing jigs
MarkWVU02 47 Posted January 24, 2013 Mine would be a conversion. Not sure about the other guys though.
CageFighter 236 Posted January 24, 2013 Mine would be a conversion. Not sure about the other guys though. same here. how crazy do u guys wanna go? thread barrels? replace FSB? add cleaning rods? WHO has trigger groups IN STOCK??
vladtepes 1,060 Posted January 25, 2013 my point is just make sure you are not "manufacturing" a firearm... and I would always be willing to lend a hand on what I know (saigas) but not coming to NJ any time soon... lol
CageFighter 236 Posted January 25, 2013 but not coming to NJ any time soon... lol i DONT blame you.....I wouldnt either!
RecessedFilter 222 Posted January 25, 2013 Building is much different than converting!
CageFighter 236 Posted January 25, 2013 Building is much different than converting! not if ur a newbie to the stuff!
RecessedFilter 222 Posted January 25, 2013 In that case, converting will most likely be easier than building!
HardCorr 0 Posted January 25, 2013 Same here doing a conversion
CageFighter 236 Posted January 25, 2013 time for a "Group Buy" on conversion parts?
Big Jay 0 Posted January 25, 2013 I can give tips and advice on a conversion as well. I will say now: i don't have a CLUE how to get the FSB off. Nearest I've heard, you need to drill out the pins, get the FSB hot as hell, and press it off. I am also not sure if the barrel is threaded underneath. Here is mine. And yes, the mag is blocked. It's a Bulgarian steel with a poly block, riveted to the floor plate, with the floor plate welded on. not if ur a newbie to the stuff! There is one particular member here that actually bought a parts kit with a cut receiver, and a separate NEW receiver, and assembled it. You need a press and jigs to press the old barrel out of the trunnion and into the new one. I wont mention his name. I'll ask him to take a look at the thread and see if he wants to chime in. Probably the most brilliant and mechanically/technological inclined person i know lol.
CageFighter 236 Posted January 25, 2013 ok guys.....SLANT brake or AK74 style brake? (with cleaning rod underneath) .....or ONE of EACH?
EWC88 24 Posted January 27, 2013 I'd like to do a build, I do not know what all is needed and prices so it would help!
k3c4forlife 0 Posted January 31, 2013 Haha, forgot I started this post... I really want to do a build from 100% receiver and parts kit. The availability of parts is the problem. Would the best receiver to build on be the NDS-1 EZ? What parts kits do people recommend?
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted January 31, 2013 You need rivet tools and a press, thats basically it for a real build (not converting)

Would the best receiver to build on be the NDS-1 EZ? What parts kits do people recommend? +1 for NDS. I used the NDS-5 since I had a m70 parts kit (which I picked up from a dude in Miami on GB). Along with the NDS-29 FCG (Arsenal). And a rivet set, gas piston, and slant muzzle brake from APEX. This was about a year ago Went from this: To this: Gunsmith charged me a couple hundred
