bv1983 0 Posted April 7, 2013 So, im looking to purchase a 1911 as soon i receive my set of permits. Ive been doing my research on both handguns on different forums and youtube, and both seem to have good reviews. if you were to buy one which one would you pick? Ray Ray 3,566 Posted April 7, 2013 SA Range officer will (in theory) be more accurate and better suited for competition or target shooting. The SR 1911 is built more towards defensive use. BUT, both will do either.
Steve_G 51 Posted April 7, 2013 I would say the SA Range Officer is one of the best buys out there in a 1911. It gets a good bit of extra hand fitting and TLC from the smiths at Springfield.
BlueLineFish 615 Posted April 7, 2013 if you are close and bring a box of 45 you can try my range officer
fatty 241 Posted April 7, 2013 Of the two choices I say the RO. Not because I own one but because the build quality is much better IMO. Im not saying the Sr1911 is bad, but for around $100 more id prefer having a forged steel frame and slide. The barrel bushing on my RO is also VERY tight. The 1911forum has tons of info on both of those models if you havent already looked.
bv1983 0 Posted April 7, 2013 thanks for the input guys, I was leaning towards the RO. im not close to bayonne BLUE but thanks for the offer appreciate it
MattH 0 Posted April 7, 2013 I have the SR1911 and my son has the RO, both are great guns, IMO. The sights on the RO are a lot better for quick target acquisition and folow up shots. As far as accuracy, I'd say they are about even.
JackDaWack 2,895 Posted April 8, 2013 I picked the RO for many of the reason posted above.. for a production run of the mill 1911 it gets you more for the $$$ especially if you decide it will be primarily a range pistol. It falls under the "target" category, with LPA rear sights.. and the fit is very good for something that otherwise you wouldn't expect. It's the little brother to the TRP. plus you can always send it into SA for upgrades down the line... honestly, if you were to take a sr1911 and bring it up to the RO standards you would be spending much more.. but it depends on the use... the RO is not a defensive 1911 with the stock sights and its not a competition pistol, it falls right in the middle which is what they were going for, something the average user could really appreciate. They make a non-adjustable sight for it, and others, in standard and night if you want to use it for HD or carry.
fatty 241 Posted April 8, 2013 Hope you enjoy it! I love mine
VaultDweller 0 Posted May 16, 2013 I really like my Ruger 1911, but the Springfield was my close second choice.
checko 180 Posted May 16, 2013 There is just something about the Springrfield I just don't like. Can't really put my finger on it. Personally I think the Colt Rail Gun will be my next 1911.
BlueLineFish 615 Posted May 16, 2013 I have been hearing a lot of complaints about the rail guns. Apparantly the rail is breaking.

gunguy1960 2 Posted May 16, 2013 Range officer has really gotten some great reviews.
Shocker 151 Posted May 16, 2013 I haven't dealt with Ruger but the Springfield customer service is outstanding if anything were to go wrong. I would have bought the RO if I wanted a park'ed 1911. I ended up with a loaded.
