Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 9, 2013 Is gluing them on really legal
Anselmo 87 Posted June 9, 2013 Is your barrel threaded?
Soju 153 Posted June 9, 2013 Gluing them on what? Though it might be dumb, ineffective, and not work well, what would make it illegal?
Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 9, 2013 Illegal because is it permanately attached by law and how are you going to show an official that it is perm attached without that pin mark in the comp
Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 9, 2013 Bear with me as i try to figure out how the to respond to this email thingy.
robot_hell 72 Posted June 9, 2013 Its legal if it is threaded as long as it is permanently attached. Permanent means it can't be removed. I can't think of any glues that would be strong enough to permanently attach it.
Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 9, 2013 Yes barrels are threaded

Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 9, 2013 Thats what im worried about. The place in lakewood glues them. Jb weld or something like it. Any experience with comps on ars in nj
JT Custom Guns 959 Posted June 9, 2013 The NJ State police will not accept gluing as a form of conversion! Think of it in this way - the barrel is threaded so it is an "evil feature" once you install a muzzle break (comp) and then cross drill & pin it the Powers that be consider the barrel no longer threaded since you can no longer un-screw the break. Any type of glue (loc-tite, ect.) will set up and hold untill it is heated to a point where it will liquify and you will be able to un-screw the break
JC_68Westy 1,024 Posted June 9, 2013 Although not glue, silver solder is accepted as permanent without a pin and weld. Isn't it?
Golf battery 1,223 Posted June 9, 2013 Thats what i figured but why would this place send me out with ars with comps glued Id be worried about my ffl license. Right ? I think i might try to get them off myself and do my own pinning. And tig weld the end of it. Thoughts. Reading threads and responses can get you nuts. Ar's. more the merrier all should have atleast one
Soju 153 Posted June 9, 2013 Oh...on an AR. Through 11 posts I still had no idea what you were talking about. It matters, because compensators aren't illegal and threaded barrels in many cases aren't illegal either.
Maksim 1,504 Posted June 9, 2013 What? Gluing a comp? Jb weld is not a glue... It is welded in place. Scratching my head. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Fred2 367 Posted June 9, 2013 If you have access (and the required skills) to a machine shop. NOTHING is permanent.
2 trip_nick 0 Posted June 9, 2013 If you have access (and the required skills) to a machine shop. NOTHING is permanent. Permanent as defined by the state of NJ is all that matters. It's a short menu: Pinned and welded or 1300º F silver solder.

phoenix_iii 0 Posted June 10, 2013 You can also drill and tap a small hole, put on the brake or nut, screw in a little allen bolt, and then weld over it. It's permanent but removable with minimum damage in the future if you're careful.
robot_hell 72 Posted June 10, 2013 Permanent but removable? :| You could also just go with a threadless barrel and use a set screw mount comp.
