Disney Cruise

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever been on a Disney Cruise and if so are they worth the money? The one I was looking at is a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas and Castaway cay (Disney's private island) and it seems to be almost double the price of compatible cruises on other cruise lines. Is the huge price difference due to hidden fees from the other cruise lines or is it just because it's Disney and nothing Disney is cheap?

Disney cruises are more expensive as they're more geared towards family vacationing/cruising.  The entertainment and activities are more kid related.  Other cruise lines kinda generalize on the entertainment and activities.  Norwegian even goes so far as to have adult only shows (like Rock of Ages - definitely not for kids).

Are you planning on going with family or just as a couple?

Do you have a travel agent?  My friend is a travel agent (have booked 2 cruises through her) and is a great resource to ask.  She's constantly going on cruises and traveling so she sees what everyone sees firsthand.  I can give you her contact info if you'd like.

What is your goal on the cruise?   I take cruises to see something new and not have to pack and unpack every night.   I'm Royal Caribbean Platinum, almost Emerald and have a Denali/Alaska Cruise booked for this summer.

I've had friends take the Disney cruises...but their kids were between 5 and 12, which is perfect for those cruises.

If it were just me and the wife, there is NO WAY on this Earth I'd set foot on a Disney cruise :).    I say this having visited WDW 4 times in the past 8 years.

Everything on those cruises is nice, just as you'd expect from Disney, but it's very oriented toward entertaining your children.

We did a Disney cruise last May. Overall it was great but it was my first cruise so I don't have much to compare it to. As implied by the name, it's definitely focused on kids.. 5-12 seems right, mine was a little young at the time.

My neighbors have gone and loved it? It's the only cruise where you don't have to see you kids all day and not worry about them. They are taken well care of and at the end of day are ready for bed so you can enjoy the night.
