Wolf ammuniton? Glock KBoom problems?

Recommended Posts

I own a Glock 23, and on a trip upstate NY I recently bought 500rds of Wolf ammo in .40 and another 500 in .45 cal. It was a good price and I though I had made a good score. Now after asking around local shops Im hearing a lot of bad things...

After researching everything I could find online, I also see their are a lot of people who claim that a Glock 23 has much more of a possibility of actually blowing up in your hand while shooting!

Does anyone have any personal experience with Wolf ammo, and/or Glock Kaboom problems?

One funny thing I have found in my short time as an avid shooter, is that every shop around me has "experts" and their advice is often the EXACT OPPOSITE of the others!! So Im not sure who to believe. I do shoot at The Bullet Hole in Belleville, and they wont allow Wolf ammo on their range.

thanks

Opinions are like a holes.... everyone has one. =)

It is funny, I was at yet another gunshop today. There are multiple sales guys, and in the half hour I was there, they sold 4 or 5 guns there, both rifles and handguns. Including a guy who bought a glock 26 I was wondering about purchasing.

People swear by glocks for the simple design... yet if you do google glock blowup, there will be people who say they do blow up. If you bring this up to a glock fanboy, they dismiss it completely.

The dealer I bought my S&W from, completely dislikes glocks, as they really dont think it feels and shoots like a real handgun, ala H&K, or a Sig. One other dealer I spoke to described it as a Toyota Corolla of handguns. It is very reliable, and shoots every time, yet... very plain jane and a boring experience.

His wife, actually refers to Glocks as "Fisher Price Toy: My first handgun"

As far as the wolf ammo, I have only shot them in the Mak, Makarov. Shoots like it is supposed to, goes bang, and no misfires.

Apprarently they are taking quality very seriously. I will be buying some in the future in multiple calibres and will see. I guess some people may just be iffy on Wolf ammo as it is Russian. I am russian, and actually prefer it, but I can see how people can dislike it.

Eh..

Some guns are pickier than others about the ammo they shoot.

Try several types out in your guns, and see what it does the best with, then stick with that round for target... Do the same thing for a home defense round.

For example, my wife's taurus 9mm won't shoot the cheap no name shit. It will blast through WWB, UMC, and blazer brass with no problems, but put a super cheap ammo through it, and it will hiccup on it.

Now my XD45, I can shoot freakin rocks with primers on it probably and it wouldn't care. It will shoot damn near anything that goes bang.

I shoot plenty of cheap, dirty Wolf .40 S&W in my old Ruger P94 and have no problems with it at all. The only problems one might encounter with it is the same as with any steel cased ammo; a broken extractor is a possibility down the line and if your semi-auto gets dirtied up (which is does quickly with Wolf's powders) you may get some FTEs.

I also shoot a ton of it, meaning about 200-300 rounds a session, out of my Bushmaster AR. No problems to report at this time. It's cheap and it's good range ammo. With prices the way they are, it does the job.

As to your Glock, what was it?, blowing up. I seriously doubt that. I've seen, handled and fired a Glock 19, 17 and your venerable 23 that have each seen many thousands of rounds with no mishaps. The 19 and 17 are carry and range guns of a friend, respectively, in AZ and the 23 is an LEO friend's back-up piece. He fires all kinds of crap ammo through it; aluminum Blazer cased, Wolf steel and cheap reloads. No problems.

Yeah, I dont know what to think. There are a few sites online all about it, for example:

but you know how the net is, you can find anything under the sun, but then you have to sift through about 90% BS and ads to get to any truth!

I just got a little paranoid with what the shops were saying, but it doesnt really matter- The only places I go wont let me shoot it anyway! I guess I will just stash this in case of a SHTF scenario, then I wouldnt give a damn!

The other thing that gets me on all of the info online with all the ugly pics of guns blowing up, they never really talk about the shoooter? Like, is the hand still there? Injuries?

Basically what I get from all this is that there is probably an incredbily rare chance that my gun could blow up, and if it did, I would probably be fine! The driving trip to the range is probably the most dangerous part of shooting!

Im not going to worry about it.

thanks for the info guys.

I have been shooting Wolf, Brown Bear and Silver Bear for years, with no problems at all.

Me too. I've used wolf 9mm, 40 and 45 without any problems at all.

I bought some for my stag in 223 and had a few failed primers. I wouldn't recommend it (American made stuff is the best) but others swear by it.
