charleslee 45 Posted April 26, 2009 Is there anywhere in N.J. where you can shoot a .50 Cal?
kenw 293 Posted April 26, 2009 Cherry Ridge has no caliber restrictions on the big bore (200/300 yd.) range. They also host .50BMG events at least once (maybe more) a year.
charleslee 45 Posted April 26, 2009 kenw: Thank-you for responding. Do you have any contact info for Cherry Ridge?
kenw 293 Posted April 26, 2009 charleslee, http://www.anjrpc.org/cherry_ridge.htm .50 rifle match on May 10. Ken
Maksim 1,504 Posted April 26, 2009 for 50bmg I am sure you would want an outside range in which case most clubs I have shot at would handle it. for 50 action express or 50 s&w, indoor brick armory can handle it. not sure about the other public indoor ranges. if they have rubber backfill, good sign they should be able to handle 50 cal or high power rifle. charleslee 45 Posted April 26, 2009 MAKSIM: I should have been more specific, BMG was what I was looking for. I'll check-out the Cherry Ridge link which was kindly provided. The only range that I'm a member at is Central Jersey Rifle & Pistol club and they won't allow .50's. I live in Jackson so I would like to find someplace not too far. But, I'll take what I can get. Appreciate your helping me out!
Maksim 1,504 Posted April 26, 2009 Central Jersey does not let you shoot 50 cal? wow, didnt know. Dont they have 50 cal matches? I will look at Citizens rifle and revolver club though their ranges are only 50 yards and 100 yard.
kenw 293 Posted April 26, 2009 What about the range at Fort Dix. Seems like they should be okay with .50. Don't they have a 600 yd. rifle range? Ken
tbtrout 141 Posted April 26, 2009 You can shoot a 50 at Dix. Only a 200 yd range.
rscalzo 3 Posted April 26, 2009 ranges are only 50 yards and 100 yard Unless you just want to hear and feel the recoil, it isn't worth wasting ammo at those ranges.
lunker 274 Posted April 28, 2009 Shore Shot rents a .50 cal. I imagine they would let you shoot your own there, although maybe only if you're a member.
Lunicy 4 Posted April 28, 2009 I believe charleslee meant a .50 BMG. Think M2 or Barrett rifles. Shore shot rents a .500 s&w. It is a revolver, albeit powerful, nothing compared to a .50 BMG. CJRP Does not allow .50bmg at their range. (I wish they did). BTW Which rifle do you have?
charleslee 45 Posted May 1, 2009 Lunicy: I did mean .50 BMG. Thank-you! I have a Serbu, and haven't even been able to enjoy it. Maybe I should sell it, but (1) I don't really want to, and (2) if they are banned, I won't really have a choice, will I? Probably should have listened to my boss and never have gotten it but I thought it would be neat & wanted to get one before outlawed, hoping it would be grandfathered. Oh well... Not the first gun I probably shouldn't have bought & won't be the last!
Lunicy 4 Posted May 1, 2009 Lack of places to shoot it is the only reason I don't own one.
leadunderpressure 52 Posted May 17, 2009 Cherry Ridge in Highland Lakes NJ has semi routine 50 BMG matches on the weekend a couple of time per year. They do allow you to practice on their 200/300 yard range with limited projectiles(lead core only no solids or anything with steel in it) on Wednesday and Thursday of each week.
