XDJohnTact 49 Posted July 25, 2009 Self taught, bought my first pistol in '66, my brother gave me his .22 auto rifle when he came out of the service in '69. Shot very, very little since '70. Ffast Forward to 2007 and my son decides he wants to take up shooting so we start all over from scratch.

JC_68Westy 1,024 Posted August 2, 2009 Started with my father, then hunting. The real formal training started at Parris Island and Camp Pendleton in the 80's. I think I learn something every time I go shooting , some of it very humbling...
Theron 5 Posted August 12, 2009 As a youth in Hunterdon County there was much plinking, but over the past two years I've taken NRA basic pistol and just today Basic Rifle at Gun For Hire in Belleville, NJ with Anthony Colandro. I've read books and internets, but there is nothing like having an affable and professional instructor give direction. (and tases when necessary)
sparny524 0 Posted August 12, 2009 I'm kind of a hybrid.... I had a bunch of informal training from my mentor (VA State Police Sgt.) I also consider the 5 minute living room lesson on how to "properly" draw from the holster I received from my friend's brother informal training (Navy SEAL, came back from Cali to visit fam. had to take advantage of the situation ) . I also jumped on any formal classes offered by the PD down at school (Basic Firearms Course, Basic Pistol Course, Defensive Pistol Course)
