Caine 147 Posted February 12, 2010 I've somewhat standardized on .223/5.56, 9mm, and .22lr. When I first got into the whole gun thing, I decided that I wasn't gonna go nuts and have to worry about a bunch of different calibers. Those are the calibers I buy in bulk and try to keep on hand all the time. That said, I didn't exactly stick my original plan. The hobby/fun part of "the gun thing" means there's just too many cool firearms out there to limit myself to only 3 calibers
dave545 15 Posted February 12, 2010 Count me in ive been anticipating Z-DAY (zombie day) for years now i hase a bunch of .22lr and im ordering a case of 5500 soon and ive been stockpiling all the 7mm rem mag that i could find that is at a reasonable price and a bunch of 9mm and thousands of shotgun shells so ya count me in for this zombie extermination squad ill shoot them when they are a few hundred yards out so we can keep them away for a while

The hobby/fun part of "the gun thing" means there's just too many cool firearms out there to limit myself to only 3 calibers It would be very easy if we settled on 9mm and .45 for handguns, 223/5.56 for ARs, 308 for bolt actions. I am sure there are people that will want 306 or 30-30 but I think we should stick to the rounds commonly use by military and law enforcement for supply reasons. 22lr would work well because we can carry a lot and we just need one head shot anyway regardless of round. I wonder if buckshot is over kill or if we can get enough penetration to kill with just target shells.

takeji 3 Posted February 12, 2010 I'd really like to see survivor man do a episode of urban survival. There was just an episode of Man vs Wild with urban survival. Was pretty good. I don't think Les Stroud does survivorman anymore.
Chad 3 Posted February 12, 2010 oh wow...I'd really like to see that. I'll have to find out when it will be on again! Sorry to hear he is not doing survivor man any longer. I enjoyed that show.
bbk 188 Posted February 12, 2010 Did you, takeji, just watch the urban survival episode of man vs wild yesterday?! Ha because I just saw it for the first time then. I know Bear and his entourage take some liberties, but he did some ballsy stuff most people wouldn't be able to physically do or want to do (like doing a monkey crawl on a wire-rope bridge from a very high height). But yea, its too bad Les Stroud doesn't do Survivor man anymore. I think the closest to "urban survival" he's done was his documentary of living off the grid. Yeah, his show really doesn't show much survival skills for the average person. However it is a good watch. And he didn't even show us how to make that bomb! Something useful for zombies. BCeagle 12 Posted February 12, 2010 I was thinking of ways to make a perimeter out of gasoline and also using homemade naplam but fire is not something you want to be messing with near your shelter. Eventually we are going to have to go on scouting raids and search and destroy missions so we can have a regular life. Thats when I bust out the home made flame thrower. bbk 188 Posted February 12, 2010 The thing about fire, and Brooks actually talks about it in ZSG, is that unless you know how to harness it-- its likely to bite you in the arse. For me, aside from making a small fire to keep warm/signal/cook, I wouldn't try to ever manipulate it in any other fashion. I'm not so much the clumsy type, but the stuff has a minds of its own

I'm not so much the clumsy type, but the stuff has a minds of its own I agree, I actually read the survival gude and starting WWZ BUT fire is so cool. Sure you dont need a 50 cal to blow a zombie's head off but wouldnt you want to do just once to see how it would look. After that, I am sure it might get addictive. Caine 147 Posted February 12, 2010 I'd really like to see survivor man do a episode of urban survival. He did: ETA: Dunno if anyone has seen the Hoods Woods/Woodsmaster series, but they also put out a couple urban dvds. http://survival.instantestore.net/cat_urbanmaster.cfm They're ok for what they are - mostly common sense stuff.. but it sometimes helps to see a visual representation of things. The first one is better and more appropriate to this topic than the second one.

bbk 188 Posted February 12, 2010 That was a decent game too It also gets me thinking that I really should consider training to get a pilot license. Not for anything big, but it'd be a hell of a skill to have if I need to get out of dodge quickly.
Caine 147 Posted February 12, 2010 That was a decent game too What game is that from? I've seen that vid dozens of times, but have never bothered to track down it's origins. bbk 188 Posted February 12, 2010 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K. ... _Chernobyl The game S.T.A.L.K.E.R that takes place in an alternate reality Chernobyl (hence the Russian elements in the viral vid). The video itself is pretty convincing though, huh? Haha. And really, like WWZ explores, who knows what countries like Russia or China have hidden away from the free world countries? Doomsday devices (the fabled device from Dr. Strangelove that may actually exist), UFOs and aliens (Tungusaka event, ehh ehh )... zombies?

bbk 188 Posted February 13, 2010 Marksmanship is a basic fundamental (ha, I hope considering we're all firearm owners). I think whats more important is to know what kind of specialized skill sets we have (since that's whats America has become). Positions like engineers, communications specialists, heavy equipment operators, health technicians (doctors, nurses, etc), LE/Mil. And then knowing what kind of other skill sets, like first aid or radio specialists, or even advanced marksmanship.
