vozella 2 Posted June 3, 2010 Over the last few months my ammo supply has been growing. I have been keeping it in the gun safe, but it now needs it's own real estate. I have a nice spot in my garage but wondered if the summer heat and humidity would make a difference. On the other hand, ammo used in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq etc. sure as hell wasn't kept in temp. controlled rooms! In any case, where are most of you ammo hoarders keeping your supplies? lunker 274 Posted June 3, 2010 Basement. It's always a little cool. I have the dehumidifier running so it never gets too damp.
DevsAdvocate 112 Posted June 3, 2010 I keep mine in M2A1s or PA19s with a baggie or two of dessicant.
Malsua 1,422 Posted June 3, 2010 . On the other hand, ammo used in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq etc. sure as hell wasn't kept in temp. controlled rooms! No, but they were stored in these: I keep about half my ammo in military cans, the other half in a cool dry place.
Caine 147 Posted June 3, 2010 Some in the safe.. some in ammo cans.. and some in Cabella's dry boxes. Usually throw in bag of desiccant just to be safe... all in the basement.
Maksim 1,504 Posted June 3, 2010 wait until tonight, then go through the cabelas link. they have a deal for those cans. $79.99 for 4 bricks of 22LR and a dry box... or $14.99 for a dry box with a box of PMC 223. $5 shipping for the win.

efl15 0 Posted June 4, 2010 Any recommendations on where to get ammo cans locally(up north)? And whats a good price for them?
Celraysoda 7 Posted June 4, 2010 Any recommendations on where to get ammo cans locally(up north)? And whats a good price for them? I use the mil surplus ammo cans as long as the seal is intact. There is a mil surplus store near me in Hackensack that has tons of them. Also a nice selection of Garand parts if anyone is in need. Shopping in Target or Home Goods is a good place for the silica gel packets to put in the cans to keep moisture out. They are usually placed in all the drawers and vases and such. I always ask a red shirt if it is okay...

Krdshrk 3,878 Posted June 5, 2010 With those ammo cans - is it bad if they're rusty? Mine's rusty on the outside but the seal is still great. I actually just taped it up with duct tape so that I don't hurt myself on the rust
