Looking for a side of pork...

Recommended Posts

My friend goes to Valley Provisions in the Ironbound section of Newark. The address is

223 Wright St

Newark, NJ 07114

(973) 824-2076

If you order a fresh whole pig you would have to go there and put a deposit down and usually have to place the order by tuesday or wednesday and the pigs will be there by friday morning. They are only open until noon on saturdays and closed on sundays, the rest of the week they are open at 7am - around 4pm.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I called Ely Farm but unfortunately they only sell parts. I'm looking for that type of place though... someplace pigs are raised on a farm rather than some giant meat factory. If anyone has other suggestions let me know.

you can try the meat section of Hong Kong Supermarket on Rt 18 in East Brunswick.

Wait...do you want it roasted already or are you planning to make a pit and roast it yourself?

There used to be a butcher shop in Mickleton(sp), NJ by Swedesboro/Paulsboro that sold my grandfather whole pigs. They were called Haine's. This was a few years back. I did drive past there a couple months ago and the sign was still there but you can't see the building from the road.

I too have a smoker and love to smoke pork shoulders. Do you also make your own BBQ sauce? I got hooked on the stuff when I went to college in VA. IT was funny...they couldn't make a hoagie, pizza, or cheese steak to save their lives so it was like torture for 4 years. When I came back up here, I expereinced the same thing with BBQ. Luckily I worked at an Ex's BBQ restraunt and used to mix the "secret formula" sauce and remember how to make it as nobody up here knows how to make good BBQ.
