Report: 7 Shot at a Nevada IHOP Restaurant

Recommended Posts

The FBI’s Nevada office has confirmed that seven people were shot inside of a Carson City, Nevada, IHOP. Currently, authorities believe that there was only one shooter involved in the incident. The Record Courier has more:

[seven] people have been shot by a suspect reportedly carrying a semi-automatic weapon at the Carson City International House of Pancakes.

Details of the situation are still developing, but the suspect has been reported as “down”.

The shooting happened just before 9 a.m. At least four helicopters have been called to the scene. Medical and law enforcement personnel are still evaluating the scene.

Below, watch raw footage from the scene of the crime (courtesy of RGJ.com):

KTVN.com is reporting that the shooter may be “down.” The Associated Press has more details:

[sheriff Kenny Furlong] says multiple people were wounded, including the shooter. He says the person who authorities believe to be the shooter has been transported to a hospital “and is probably going to die.”

Local and state police and FBI agents have descended on the scene on South Carson Street, also called U.S. 395, the main street in the state capital. Yellow tape surrounded the parking lot near a Kohl’s department store in a shopping complex across the street from a casino and hotel. [...]

Witnesses said a man pulled up outside the IHOP in a blue minivan. He had a rifle and shot a man on a motorcycle, then walked inside the restaurant and started shooting, said Ralph Swagler, owner of Locals Barbecue in the same strip mall as the IHOP.

Swagler told the Reno Journal-Gazette that after several minutes, the man walked outside and began firing into the Locals Barbecue and an H&R Block in the strip mall.

“This happens in third-world countries, not here,” Swagler said.

yet another mentally ill person whose family did nothing. Not to mention he had been commited for a time in 2000 because he was thought to b3e mentally unstable.

I have said it before and I will say it again, gun advocates need to get on board with keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, not just criminals.

I hope they are "Okay"....

My close friend reported this:

The count is up to 5 Dead (Including the shooter) and 7 injured.

3 Dead from the National Guard.

1 Civillian female that was in the restaurant.

The rest are not being reported on / having names released because of stupid HIPAA laws.

He had an AK-47 "like" rifle and a pistol. They say "like" because they are still investigating whether it was full-auto or not. He had another assault rifle in the vehicle... and he only discharged the assaut riffle he was carrying. He did not fire the pistol.

He apparently fired shots before he went into the restaurant, while inside, and after he came out. The people in the restaurant that he shot were near the back while he was somewhere in the middle. Since both Military and civillians were killed and injured... it doesn't look like he was totally going after the military, and more likely that the uniforms just caught is eye.

Although there hasn't been a motive spoken about yet... it's looking like a totally random nut job. Of course, our community is in total shock... as one person put it... this type of stuff happens in L.A. or Las Vegas... NOT in Carson City. And for the most part, that is true, although we do have some local mexican gang activity... but way lighter than any big city, though.

He did say some stuff while he was in the Restaurant shooting at people... but that info has not been released yet.

I heard there was a guy with a CCW on scene, but he had the wherewithal to realize he was outgunned and didn't confront the shooter.

I read that too, not sure what I would have done. Every situation is different, so who knows.

Well... if this was Nevada, I'd prolly keep a truck gun in my car (AR-15 or AK) and would've gone for that. Then waited outside the joint for the guy to walk out. But seeing as we're in NJ, I would've run for the hills.

The only major issue I see with laying in wait for the guy is that police would mistake me for the gunman and just blow me away. Then the media and police would try to spin it as if I were helping the shooter.

Every situation is different as mentioned above. However, if I am sitting in an establishment...carrying...and someone starts to open fire on random people I would like to think I would be able to keep my composure enough to protect those around me. Isn't that why we have licenses to carry? Problem is...would I now be a criminal as well because I capped the original bad guy? I would venture to say at that point it does not matter. I can either live as a criminal/hero or become worm food. At least I went out with a fight. If we are in NJ at the time, I may throw my drink at the guy or give him the finger.

This type of situation sucks all the way around. Innocent families are hurt, lives are lost...heck, even the shooter's family is probably trying to figure out what happend. I never get why people go on these shooting sprees to kill others who can't protect themselves, then commit suicide. They only hurt everyone else and take the easy road.
