USPSA / Shongum 11/5

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd beat Mike (Col Mortimer) to it and list this upcoming match while everyone is still in a dither over Old Bridge.

I have to say, I resisted going to Shongum simply because it was on a Saturday. Finally broke down and went (turns out my GF is glad to get rid of me - what's up with that?) and I'm glad I did. This has become my favorite USPSA venue. Ron puts on a good, well run match and they usually have some kind of side stage if you are interested.

Last month was cancelled due to weather (and my mother's 90th birthday :icon_mrgreen: , j/k, but that's why I couldn't have gone anyway) and that was supposed to be a classifier with a rifle side stage - not sure how much of that, or even if that, is going to carry over - I'll let Mike enlighten us on that aspect.

So, any chance of a NJGF squad at this match? I'll be there. Hope to see you. Probably have room for a rider if you're close by.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Possibly in. Rifle side stage?

If I remember correctly, there will be no rifle or shotgun side match. The classifier matches usually have the highest attendance. Therefore, they take longer to run and there is no time for the side match. The official email should go out in less than a week. I will post it as soon as Ron sends it out.

Any idea of the stages and/or fees?

Any idea of the stages and/or fees?

The stages will be included in the email sent out on Sunday, 10/30. As soon as I receive the email, I will post all the information. If I remember correctly, the fees are the same as always; $20 for non-members and $15 for members. I think there are six stages. Classifiers are usually short and simple stages.

I will be in attendance..

I will say that I am frustrated there will be no rifle stage, but I do understand the circumstances of the match being crowded. I just got a new addition to my rifle collection and was realllyyyyy looking forward to it, especially since last months was canceled.

Dre,

The reason for no side stage.... typically the shotgun or rifle side stage will be a regular stage, with a few mods for the side stage. Because this is a classifier match, the side stage would have to be completely new.

We plan to set up an optional side stage. It is 8 rounds of steel and disappearing targets and is not part of the match. It’s $5 to shoot it and it is a 50/50 event. Half of the funds collected will go to the Wounded Warrier Project. The other half will be paid out as prizes. All will be scored together as one division and all scored as major power factor. Depending on the number of participants the list will be divided into equal sections, two or three. The prizes will be paid out to the overall winner and those who fall above the dividing line(s).

I'll be there. The Tenafly USPSA practice match was cancelled due to no power. These stages call for accurate shot placement so I could have used some practice.

I think I was in a fog last match. The brain was not working and I was distracted. I'll have to do better for the classifier.

About what time does this finish up? I'm a bit tight on time and can't be there all day.

Hard to say since, being a classifier, this is different than their usual monthly match. While it has more stages (6 vs the usual 5), they are of shorter duration/lower round count, plus they are consistent from stage to stage (no excessively long stages to back things up). It is also dependent on the turnout. The regular matches are usually done around 3:30 PM. I kind of expect this to go quicker, but I may be totally wrong. Hope that range conditions will be OK as I'm looking forward to this.
