Don't wait - Prepare now!

Minor tangent, but the "Mayan" calendar was copied/based off a far more ancient civilization in the region known as the Olmecs. Olmecs preceded the Mayans and other indigenous peoples of that region by either a few hundred or thousand years. Just annoys me that the Mayans get repeated credit for something that they essentially came into power of, not necessarily having created it (same goes with the majority of Mayan culture... arguably the Mayan culture was a social evolution of the Olmecs, who, again arguably, were either bred or wiped out long before the Mayans, etc.).

But as others said, it has been the Westerners that have said, for whatever reason, that the Long Count Calendar would even end, thus signifying the end of the world. Similar to the concept of the yagus in Hinduism, the Long Count calendar instead is to be considered more along the lines of cycles (in the case of the LCC, it has to do more with astrological cycles then "world cycles" found in Hinduism). Arguably, some cultures tend to have a more world-ending perception as their sacred texts dictate that concept. Other cultures do not necessarily share the same concept, and it is easy to see why that cultural discrepancy creates misconceptions during translation.

The "Mayan" world ended a long time ago. The problem with the current situation is that there is no politician willing to do what needs to be done. Fact is we need to STOP spending and let the economy find a natural bottom.

+$16,000,000,000,000 (for those who don't know, this is 16 trillion dollars, our national debt, not counting the many more trillions of unfunded liabilities)

Problem is, there's no political will for this.

So it's "down, down, down the dark ladder" as Joni says in Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire.

my prediction for the mayan end of the world is.......... nothing. maybe a heavens gate type suicide somewhere but itll be another y2k.

I wouldn't equate idiocy with y2k. The only reason y2k wasn't a mess was because a LOT of people worked very hard to avoid it being a mess.

We have a winning answer to all the Chicken-Littles.

My "2012 Mayan Calendar" response moving forward; "Look phuck-tard, the Mayan's world ended a long time ago. Now how about focusing on the American Civilization's survival and get rid of this administration in November."

Thanks Ron!

Thought they were a motorcycle club? ;)

The Mayans are still here. They've just gone Norte to Xibalba and are filing for SSN benefits.
