Question: Gonna be putting in for my first P2P.....

Recommended Posts

As the title says, I'm going to be putting in for my first P2P. As I've always been a "rifle" guy this will be my first experience with the world, and associated bureaucratic hurdles, of pistols. My question is this: Do I go to my local PD and ask for the forms for a P2P? or are there additional forms I'll need to get from the state site?

Also, will the fact that my FID was issued in the middle of July play any role in my P2P application being slowed down or sped up?

Thanks for any input.

Good luck Sir. I've been a "rifle guy" myself, utilizing only my FID card. However, I too caved and submitted paperwork for 2 p2p's. Unfortunately, I've been waiting since mid-september. Nothing yet.. If you have had a residence in Essex County, I would prepare to wait. Again, it's been well over three months for me and i've been told it may take an additional 3 to 6 months on top of that. Apparently Hurricane Sandy "wiped out" Essex County's ability to report on mental health checks. Ugh.. Good luck though!

Thanks for the advice all. I'll be submitting for 2-3. Bossy, wow that really sucks!!! I've never lived in Essex, or anywhere in NJ before I moved here (Frenchtown) in '09. I hope it won't take that long. My local PD doesn't seem to have any issues, as a matter of fact, they seemed to be encouraging the P2P when I applied for my initial FID. We'll see.

Wow that is nice to hear! I picked up my paperwork this morning for 3 new permits and the two people at the desk at my local PD (one a cop and the other a desk jockey) both gave me a look and didn't seem very enthused when I asked for it.

I just submitted the application for more P2P's today.

As soon as I walked in the officer at the counter yells "Hey it's the firearms guy!" with a huge smile on his face lol. I hope that means these will go through quickly so I can buy my first 1911.

Luckily my local PD really embraces law abiding gun owners, which I'm thankful for.
